T: Good morning, boys and girls and our guests. I am glad to see you. Let’s start our English lesson. I will read a part of the text and you must guess, what about it.

So, the task is to brush up our knowledge about one of the finest cities in the world, about London. I know that many of you have never been to London but today I want you to feel as if you are there. We’ll speak about the history of this great city, its interesting places to visit. So the theme of our lesson is «London is the UK of Great Britain» (Slaid 1)

— And now we’ll visit some places of interest on a red double-decker bus. It is waiting for you. Who wants to be a guide? Here are some stations, let’s speak about them when the bus is coming up.
P1. London is the capital of England. Many years ago the Romans came to England.
They built a town on the River Thames. The name of the town was Londinium. London is more than 2 thousand years old. Now London is the big political and business centre of Great Britain. London’s most famous sights are: Tower Bridge, Big Ben, the Houses of Parliament, Trafalgar Square and many other interesting places.
P2. We start from Trafalgar Square. It is in the centre of London and here you can always see a lot of tourists. The tall monument in the middle is a monument to Admiral Nelson. You can see the best picture gallery in this square too. It is the National Gallery.
P3. Now we are at Buckingham Palace
The Queen of England lives in Buckingham Palace. The Palace is very nice and large. It has 600 rooms. People can visit some of them. When the flag is flying on the top the queen is at home. In front of the Palace there is the Queen Victoria Memorial.
P4. Now we are at Tower of London.
It was built in the eleventh century. Now it is a museum. Black ravens live in the Tower and people look after them. They believe that London will be rich while ravens live in the Tower.
P5. St. Paul’s Cathedral is the oldest church. Sir Christopher Wren built it after the Great Fire. It took him 35 years to built it. It is very beautiful.
P6. The Houses of Parliament is in Westminster.
It is a long grey building with two towers. One of them is the clock tower — Big Ben. You can hear the sound of this clock every hour. Very beautiful Westminster Bridge across the Thames leads to Big Ben. Westminster Abbey is a really wonderful church. It is 900 years old. Many English kings and queens are buried there. It is very nice to have a trip to London. Imagine. We’ll have London Sightseeing Tour. Let’s see some places of interest in London that you can visit and speak about them.

It is political, economic and cultural centre. It is one of the largest cities in the world and the largest city in Europe. Its population of London is about 8 million people. The official language is English.
