Climate and Nature of the USA
The USA is situated in the central part of the North American Continent. It is washed by the Atlantic Ocean in the east, by the Pacific Ocean in the west and by the Gulf of Mexico in the south.
The USA borders on Canada in the north and on Mexico in the south. It also has a sea-border with Russia.
There are lowlands and mountains in the US among which the highest ones are the Rocky Mountains, the Cordillera and the Sierra Nevada.
America’s most important rivers are the Mississippi which is one of the longest rivers in the world, the Missouri, the Rio Grande and the Columbia. However, they are unsuitable for navigation. The well-known Great Lakes located on the border with Canada are considered to be the deepest in the USA.

The climate varies from arctic to subtropical.
Most of the USA territory is marked by sharp differences between winter and summer.
Average winter temperature is about 25 degrees below zero in Alaska and up to 20 degrees above zero in Florida. Average summer temperature varies from 14 degrees above zero in the western part and up to 32 degrees above zero in the southeast.

The country flora changes depending on a climatic zone . About a third of the territory is covered with the woods, in the south of Alaska there are coniferous forests. On the other part of the country there is a tundra with lichens and mosses.

For each part of the country the vegetation is characteristic:

The plains of Wyoming, stretching for hundreds of miles, are covered with short grass and sagebrush. This is the land of cattle- and sheep breeding. The south of the country has been an agricultural region for many years. It raises the nation's cotton and tobacco. The USA also grows wheat, corn and different vegetables.
