Dear guests! Welcome to our meeting! Today we have a quiz by topic
“Sport games”. All over the world people of different ages are very fond of
sport games, especially, football, basketball and ice-hockey. These games are
very dynamic, interesting and exciting. There are two teams from groups of the
third course: the team of the group № … and the team of the group № …. I hope
they are ready to our game. Let me introduce you the members of our jury: …

The first task
There are a lot of different
sport games. And I think you know them. Try to guess next crossword.
Handball 1. This game is played on a
field and the players can touch the ball with hands.
Football 2. This game is the most
popular kind of sport in the world, where it is allowed to touch the ball with
any parts of the body except hands.
Water-polo 3. This game is played in the
swimming-pool.
Rugby 4. This game is played with an
oval-shaped ball.
Baseball 5. This game is played on a
field with a bat and small white ball. Each team consists of nine players. The
object of the game is to score more “runs” than the other team.
Cricket 6. The most popular English summer
game. It is the national sport of England.
Volleyball 7. It is an all-season game.
The object of the game is to ground the ball on the opposing team’s court and
to defend their own court.
Polo 8. This game is played
by the players sitting on the horses. Prince Charles is fond of this game.
Hockey 9. This game is played on
ice with sticks.
Soccer 10. The name of football in England.
Basketball 11. This game is played on a
court with a large orange ball.

The third task
You are fond of sport that’s
why you entered this technical school. I think you know a lot of information
about sport games, especially, about different teams and their sportsmen.
Make up five questions each group. While the groups are working we’ll listen to
the song.
Well, I think you are ready.
Give to each other questions and try to recognize about different teams and
their sportsmen. The group №… is backward that’s why they begin.
The fourth task
Each game has its feature;
it requires especially equipment, conditions. There are four sheets of paper
with some numbers on the blackboard. Look at them, guess the kind of sport and
explain what these numbers mean.
Volleyball: 9 (the width of
the court), 18 (the length of the court), 1 (the width of the net), 10 (the
length of the court), 260 (the weight of a volleyball), 6 (number of players),
2.43 (the height of the upper end of the net – for men), 2.24 (the height of
the upper end of the net – for women).
Basketball: 14 (the width of
the court), 26 (the length of the court), 45 (diameter of the basket), 650 (the
weight of a basketball), 305 (distance between the metal ring and floor), 5
(number of players), 4.6 (distance between the backboard and free throw-line),
3.6 (diameter of the field circles), 120 (the height of backboard), 180 (the
width of backboard).
Football: 90 (the width of
the field), 120 (the length of the field), 11 (number of players), 7.32
(distance between the goalposts or the width of the goal), 2.44 (the height of
the goal), 9.15 (radius of the centre circle) 450 (the weight of a volleyball),
4 (the number of corner flags).
Ice-hockey: 61 (the length of the rink), 4.5
(radius of the rink circles), 30 (the width of the court), 6 (number of
players), 1.83 (the width of the goal), 1.22 (the height of the goal), 7.62
(diameter of a puck), 170 (the weight of a puck), 9 (number of the points for
face-off).
The fifth task
Each game has its rules and
every player must know all the rules and keep them strictly. I’ll say you a
rule of a game, you must tell the kind of sport.

making unpleasant remarks to referee, to spectators, to opponents (all kinds of

not allowed dribbling with both hands (basketball);

kicking the opponents (football).
It was the last task. Our game is over. Now I want to give the word to the jury. They will
say some words about the game and announce its results.
