Арнольд Шварценеггер и Брюс Уиллис; легендарная четверка «Битлз» ;
T 1. Let`s stop here and look inside the museum of wax models…

Glorious people in Madam Tussaud’s Museum»
Tourist:
Oh, my God! I can¢t
believe it! The door is closed and I¢m
alone here, in this dark, empty Madam Tussaud¢s
Museum! It¢s midnight and the museum
opens at 7 in the morning. So, all this time I¢ll
have to spend alone, there is even nobody to talk to, only those wax figures.
Elizabeth
I: Father! Father! Where are you?
T
: What¢s that? I can hear
a voice… But who could it be?
E
:
Good evening, girl. Have you seen my father around here?
T
: No, I¢m afraid, not. But
who is your father and who are you?
E
:
What? How dare you? I¢m Elizabeth the First, by
the Grace of God of the United Kingdom of
Great Britain and Northern Ireland Queen, Defender of the Faith!
T
:
Oh, I¢m terribly sorry, I didn’t recognize you
here in this dark room.
E
:
Did¢t recognize me? Now I see that the time
has changed. In my age nothing of the kind could happen.
T
:
Maybe you could tell me a little about it.
E
: Well, I became the Queen when I was
25. The country was in terrible condition because of religious quarrels. I
wanted to continue the great deed of Reformation, that’s why I had a lot of
enemies with the Pope ahead of them. Then there was Mary Stewart, an awful
woman. She had three husbands:
the first husband died, she killed the second one and the third left her.
Besides, she wanted to get my throne, so, I had to execute her. Then we won the
war with Spain, Scotland became part of Great Britain. Yes, I am the great
Queen; I made England rich and powerful, the strongest country of the world.
Well, if you don’t believe me, ask my good
old friend Willie. Willie, Willie, come here!
Shakespeare:
To be or not to be, that is the question… Yes, it s a good beginning.
T:
Oh, Jesus! It’s William Shakespeare!
Sh:
Yes, it’s me. You wanted to see me, Your Majesty?
E:
Yes,
tell this young girl about the Golden Age of Britain.
Sh:
The
Age of Elizabeth the First was really golden. Art flourished: beautiful
buildings, famous artists and their pictures, the Renaissance came to England
at last. But, of course, of all those painters, architects and writers I was
the greatest. My characters are famous all over the world:
Romeo and Juliet, King Lear, Othello and Desdemona – they are so vivid, so
alive, not like those modern heroes of stupid detective stories.
T:
Wow!
Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson!
Holmes:
Good
evening, Your Majesty, Willie! By the way, William, did you find your book?
Here it is.
Sh:
How
did you do it?
H:
Common
sense, my dear sir, and my own deductive method.
Watson:
Yes, Holmes is the cleverest man in Britain.
H:
In
the world, my friend, in the whole world! We lived in very interesting times.
So many new people, new faces, so many crimes.
W:
But
there were not only crimes. At the end of the 19th the beginning of
the 20th century so many new machines appeared. I remember I was
very surprised when I saw the first car!
H:
And
do you remember Oscar Wilde, Bernard Show and, of course, my favourite Sir
Arthur Conan Doyle. I adore his stories. Whatever you say, my friends, but our
age was the best and Queen Victoria was the best Queen!
Thatcher:
Nonsense, gentlemen, nonsense!
E:
Who
is that speaking? I never saw her in my court!
T:
I know! It s an ex-prime-minister of Great Britain Margaret Thatcher!
Th:
Exactly, my friend! I was the prime-minister from 1979 till 1987 and I should
tell you that the time of Queens and Kings passed by long ago. The Parliament
decides everything. Of course, I was appointed by the Queen, but only because
my party won the elections to the Parliament. My duty was to inform the Crown
of the general business of the Government, to exercise a general supervision
over the Ministers, I could change the Government and select the Cabinet of
Ministers. Thanks to me Great Britain became rich and powerful again. My time
was the best!
Everybody:
Nonsense! My time was the best!
T:
Be
quiet, please, be quiet!!!
Watchman:
Who’s
that? What are you doing here?
T:
I
am talking to the people.
Watchman:
What
people? These figures are not alive. You must be sleeping. Come on!
