P1: It’s the 25th of December.
T: What kind of date is the 25th of December?
P2: It’s Christmas.
T: You are quite right. Many people in different countries celebrate
Christmas on the 25th of December, Catholic Christmas, one of the
greatest holidays. It smells Christmas here. The topic of our lesson is
“Christmas is in the air”.
You know, Russian people also celebrate this holiday. When is this holiday
celebrated in Russia?
P3: It’s celebrated on the 7th January.
T: Right you are. But why is it so? Why do people in different
countries celebrate Christmas on the 25th of December or on the 7th
of January? You can explain in Russian.
Today we have a
Christmas party. We will divide into 2 groups. Every group will say its name
and choose its leader. Take a card to find out your group.
Music is very
important in Christmas Celebrations. Hundreds of Christmas songs come from all
over the world. In the Middle Ages Christmas Carols become popular. The
word “Carol” means “a round dance”. Often the carolers dance in the street
round the tree in the park.
The first task is to guess the Christmas
song and sing it.
Jingle bells, We wish you a merry Christmas – их надо
You must answer
the questions (в учебнике квиз) and then match
the question with the answer.

Santa Claus” (Christmas, New Year, New Year Tree,
holidays, cold, sleigh, tasty things, holiday dinner, snow, winter, December).
Winter Holidays” (Christmas, New Year, New Year Tree,
skating, skiing, friends, relatives, rest, watching TV).
T: Now let’s speak about one more Christmas tradition. Presents in
the Stockings. What does it mean? Why are Christmas presents put into the Stockings?
Now your homework.
It’ll be different. You can: 1) write Mrs. Santa’s Wish List; 2) write Elves’
Wish List; 3) make a Christmas card.
Our unusual lesson
is coming to the end. Christina has prepared a surprise for us. Christina will
sing a song “Christmas in the air”.
See the soft white
flakes of snow,
People hanging mistletoe,
And wherever you may go,
There’ll be Christmas in the air tonight.
Santa’s elves are
making toys
For all little girls and boys;
Never heard such happy noise,
Yes, there’s Christmas in the air tonight.
Santa’s been
polishing up the old sleigh,
Getting it set for the magical day.
So dust out your chimney,
Because soon he’ll be heading this way.
Carols sung in
harmony,
Tinsel hung on every tree,
Children dancing happily;
Have you ever seen such a sight?
Yes, there’s Christmas in the air tonight.
Folks all aglow
with the joy of the day,
Are sending good wishes to friends far away.
And children are humming cause
Santa is coming this way.
