Teacher. Good
afternoon everyone. Today we are having a party devoted to musical group
‘Queen’. There are a lot of fans around the world and in this class as well.
Children have studied a lot of information and now they are ready to show you
their little play. I am sure it will be very entertaining.

Narrator 1. Queen
is known worldwide as a great rock band. They play many different genres, like
disco, rock, and their own version of Opera. In 1971 the four band members
formed their band during college years, changing rock music forever. Queen are a British rock
band formed in London. Their classic line-up was Freddie Mercury
(lead vocals and piano), Brian May (lead guitar and vocals), Roger Taylor
(drums and vocals), and John Deacon (bass guitar).
Narrator 2. Through
the years Queen released 18 albums and sold 45 million copies of their first
eight albums. They are the first UK band to tour South America. Many of their
songs are used in nowadays movies like Iron Man. The band’s 1977 album News of
the World contained "We Will Rock You" and "We Are the
Champions", which have become anthems at sporting events. By the 1980s,
Queen were one of the biggest stadium rock bands in the world.
Narrator 3. Their
first album was released in 1973. Queen combined in the heavy metal,
glam rock
and theatrical elements that made their style unique among others musicians. Queen's record sales
range from 170 million to 300 million records, making them one of the world's
best-selling music artists. Their
1980 single "Another One Bites the Dust" became a major hit single in
the funk rock genre. Several Queen songs were written with audience
participation in mind, such as "We Will Rock You" and "We Are
the Champions". Similarly, "Radio Ga Ga" became a live favourite
because it would have "crowds clapping

Freddie Mercury. Freddie Mercury
was born in Zanzibar to Parsi parents from India. He was the lead vocalist of
the band, he studied design at college. He
gave the name to the band and created it label using the astrological signs of
the four members: two Leos, one Cancer and one Virgo. He had incredible stage
performance, his ideas made the band’s identity. He also led a solo career and
served as a producer and guest musician for other artists. Freddie Mercury died
in 1991 from Aids.
Brian May. May
was born in Hampton. His mother was Scottish, while his father was English.
May attended the local Hampton Grammar School. Brian May was the lead guitarist.
He wrote many of the band’s songs, including ‘We Will Rock You’ and ‘The Show
Must Go On’. Brian has his own style and sound, so you can always tell his
work. Mainly he uses a home-built electric guitar called the Red Special.
He has a degree in Physics.
Roger Taylor. Roger
Taylor was born in Norfolk. Taylor's first school was Rosebury Avenue school. When he was seven years
old, he and some friends formed his first band. Taylor had originally learned
guitar, but became a drummer when he realised he had a more natural aptitude
for it. Roger Taylor was the drummer for the Queen. He is credited as having written
a great deal of Queen songs, including Radio Ga Ga. In 1970 he was working and
living with Freddie. Freddie was the one who convinced Brian and Roger to start
a new band with him. They found John Deacon and thus Queen was eventually born.
John Deacon. Deacon grew up in Oadby.
Deacon was known to friends and his bandmates as 'Deaky' and attended Linden
Junior School. He became interested in electronics, reading magazines on the
subject and building small devices, including the modification of a reel-to-reel
tape deck to record music from the radio. He studied well. He particularly
enjoyed soul music. John Deacon was the bass guitarist. He wrote at least one
song per album, several of which became hits. As well as bass, Deacon played
some guitar and keyboards on Queen's studio work.
Narrator 3. Queen’s
music progressed over time as they developed as a band, so there was something
new there for everyone. Their music was innovative, and the band wrote such
distinct, iconic songs, performing them in their own way.
Journalist (ask the
audience). So what can we learn from Queen? How can we explain
their influence around the world? We are about to find out. Please welcome the
rock band Queen!

is your secret of success?
Roger Taylor.
It is all about the team, you know. Our greatest hits were written by all
members.
Journalist. I
see, Freddie once said, “I’m not the leader of the band, I’m the lead
singer.”
Freddie Mercury.
Absolutely
right. I am nothing without this team. (smiles)
Journalist. Your
band was formed in 1970, but you didn’t release your first album until 1973.
Why?
John Deacon. We
wanted our first album to be perfect and it took 3 years of imagination, hard
work and experimentation to record every single right.
Journalist. Like
people say nothing world-changing is built overnight. Audience loves you. Your
songs empower them. How are you doing it?
Brian May. We
are doing our music for people and we want them to be part of it. That’s how the
stomp-stomp clap of ‘We Will Rock You’ actually appeared.
Roger Taylor. As
you know we do a lot of tours and got a tons of money that will go to the right
place.
Narrator 1. Queen
changed the rock music forever. They refused to be categorized and created
something truly new and meaningful. They worked really hard in the process,
releasing one album after another. They are a rock band and they sing opera. In
1992 Queen set off The Trust fund in Freddie’s honor, dedicated to fight AIDS
worldwide.
