Teacher: Now we are going to learn about a nice English
Christmas tradition - to send Christmas cards to people they like. And do
you send Christmas or New Year cards to your friends, grandparents, relatives?
Yes, this nice tradition is all over the world. But who was the first person that had an
idea to send a Christmas card? Listen to the story, read it and while listening
fill in the blanks.
Text
Did you post any Christmas .... (cards) last
year? Millions of people did, and millions more delivered cards by hand. In
fact over ....(a thousand) million
are sent every year.
The ... {first) cards were the idea of Henry Cole,
who was the first ... (director) of the Victoria and Albert Museum in
London. Every
year he sent short ... (letters) to his friends at Christmas, wishing
them a ... (happy) holiday season. But in 1843 he had no time for ... (letter-writing), so he asked
an artist, John C. Horsley, to design a card with a printed message that would substitute
for his year-to-year greeting. So a
new ... (tradition) was born for the holiday season.
8. Контроль выполнения задания.
Учащиеся читают полные предложения.
Teacher:
Let's check up how well you did this activity. Read the story one by one.
9. Соотнесение названий стран и
имен рождественских персонажей, приносящих детям дары. Используется раздаточный
материал.
Teacher:
Children, to get presents on Christmas is very pleasant, but who brings them?
Of course, in different countries they have different names. I think it will be interesting
for you to know how children of other countries call the person of this kind.
In you sheets of paper there are two columns: the names of countries and the
names of gift-bringers. Match them.
