Вступительное слово преподавателя: There are
many interesting holidays and traditions in English-speaking countries. Each
tradition has its symbols which are used as design for T-shirts, sweaters. On
the 13th of December, the British celebrate Christmas Sweater Day.
On this day they show their creative abilities and make Christmas Sweater
designs. We have decided to broaden the idea and make sweater designs to
different British holidays.
The students chose holidays and made their designs themselves. Now,
we’re going to talk about six British traditions and describe students’ sweater
designs.
So, we begin.
I.
St.
Patrick’s Day
Students’
story: We would like to present a holiday sweater design -
Shamrock on St. Patrick’s Day.
The
17th of March is a national holiday in Ireland - St Patrick’s Day.
On
this day people wear sweaters with Shamrock on it.
Shamrock
on is a plant with three leaves. It is the national symbol of Ireland.
St
Patrick was a man who had wonderful power. He cleared Ireland of snakes.
Leprechauns
are the part of St Patrick’s Day too.

Guy Fawkes’
Night
Students’ story:
We
would like to present a holiday sweater design - Guy Fawkes’ Night. (Илья)
People
of England celebrate Guy Fawkes’ Night as the holiday of fireworks and
bonfires.
It
is on the fifth of November. On that night in 1605 British Parliament was saved
from explosion. Guy Fawkes wanted to blow it up. The picture of Anonymous looks
like Guy Fawkes picture.

Groundhog Day
Student’s
story:
My
sweater design is for Groundhog Day. It is on the second of February.
Groundhog tells when spring comes. If Groundhog stays outside – spring comes
soon. If Groundhog hides away it will be cold another six weeks. And spring
will come later.

Christmas
Students’ story:
1. I
would like to present a holiday sweater design - on the Christmas holiday.
You can see a reindeer Rudolf. He has got a bright red nose. You can also see gingerbread
and stars. These things are very popular on Christmas.
2. I
would like to present a holiday sweater design - on the Christmas holiday.
You can see a reindeer Rudolf. He has got a bright red nose. This nose helped
Santa to find his way to children and give them presents on Christmas. My
sweater is red. It’s a popular Christmas colour.
3. I
would like to present a holiday sweater design - on the Christmas holiday.
You can see Christmas bells. Their sound tells us about Christmas. You can also
see a Christmas wreath. Green and red plant is ‘holly’. Holly is the symbol of
Christmas, the symbol of love, family, generosity.
4. I
would like to add that the British celebrate Christmas Sweater Day on the 13th
of December.

Worm Charming
Students’ story:
1. Worm
Charming is an old British tradition. The participants of the Worm Charming
competition try to get as many worms as possible (in kilograms). But they must
not dig the ground. My sweater depicts this tradition. You can see a worm in a
hat with maracas. This worm is a winner.
2. The
Worm Charming championship goes like this: participants are given a field with
worms and they have to pull them out.
3. The
participants of the Worm Charming competition can use everything but shovels to
get worms. After that the worms are collected and the participant who gets the
most – wins.

It’s
my new sweater. It’s very warm. It has got long sleeves, a zip, and a hood.
Then, there is an orange pumpkin and a bat on it. My sweater is black. Black
and orange are popular colours on Halloween.
People
have Halloween on the 31st of October, at night.
Pumpkin

spirits.
