  • проектор, компьютер;

  • большой чайник для кипячения воды;

  • небольшая ваза с цветами, лучше с живыми и белого цвета;

  • нож и вилка для каждого пьющего чай;

  • салфетки (возможны бумажные, в тон со скатертью);

  • чайные пары;

  • заварочный чайник (может быть один на всех или индивидуальный);

  • молочник с молоком;

  • ситечко и подставка под ситечко;

  • сахарница с рафинадом (в идеале – с белым и коричневым);

  • чайные ложки;

  • закуски к чаю (подаются на десертных тарелочках, при наличии времени и возможностей можно приготовить традиционные британские закуски, в крайнем случае – приобрести что-то подобное в магазине);

1: Welcome, my dear! I’m Anna Stanhope, the Duchess of Bedford. One day, it was in 1840, I invited my friends to my place. We had a great time drinking tea and discussing different topics. Since then there have been a tradition of five-o’clock-tea and today I invite you to have a cup of tea with me.

2: Frankly speaking, she didn’t want to invent a tradition. The Duchess would become hungry around four o'clock in the afternoon. The evening meal in her household was served fashionably late at eight o'clock, thus leaving a long period of time between lunch and dinner. The Duchess asked tea, bread and butter and cake. This became a habit of hers and she began inviting friends to join her.

1: The English are considered to be the most tea-drinking nation in the world. Every day they drink more than 120,000,000 cups of it. Nowadays, they have tea at any time but earlier they had special time for doing it.

2: Morning tea is the earliest. The English have it about 6 o’clock, sometimes they do it staying in their beds.

For breakfast, at about 8 o’clock, they have tea again. This tea is very strong to wake up even a very sleepy person.

11 – 12 oclock is a traditional lunch-time, of course, lunch is finished with tea.

In the middle of a working day the English have «tea-break». It is a tradition in many offices and companies.

At 5 o’clock millions of the English have the world-known «five-o’clock-tea».

Every evening is time for «high tea».

Before going to bed, the English can enjoy one more cup of their favourite tea but it should be caffeine-free.

1: At every tea-ceremony in England you will be suggested some sorts of tea for your choice. It is the first sign of respect. And we also have some sorts. Choose something for your likings.

2: «English Breakfast» is the quintessential ‘British Cup of Tea', a classically strong and full-bodied blend that goes well with milk and sugar. «English Breakfast» is a wonderfully satisfying harmony of strong, smooth, Assam, bright Ceylon and robust Kenyan teas. This is a brew to wake the senses first thing in the morning, complement favourite foods at breakfast and satisfy the taste buds at lunch and tea-time.

1: “English Tea No. 1” is a blend of teas from Assam, Sri Lanka and Kenya, three of Britain’s favourite tea regions. They are balanced to deliver a lively, rounded, satisfying brew. With its deep amber liquor, a hint of bergamot and a flavour more subtle than other everyday blends, this is a brew for moments when refreshment and revival are required and only the best tea will do.

2: A superb blend of selected Indian, Ceylon and Kenyan teas, “English Afternoon” brews a wonderful liquor that is sparkling coppery-red. It is ideal tea for those who want to enjoy the muscatel character of Darjeeling with the full bodied strength of an Assam or Kenyan Tea. A touch of bergamot has been added to give a delicately aromatic flavour and a tangy, lemony aftertaste that lingers intriguingly long after each sip.

1: An inspirational blend of the finest black teas subtly infused with bergamot to create the classic “Earl Grey”. Best drank without milk. Enjoy one of our most popular afternoon teas with a slice of lemon to capture those top citrus notes.

2: A classical blend of the finest Ceylon teas blended with quality Assam teas of North India. This unique blend is full of aroma and strength. It can be drunk at any time of the day for a refreshing experience.

1: Have you chosen a sort of tea? Then welcome to ourfive-oclock-tea”!

1: Don’t hurry to do everything correctly. At first listen to us and then do it. Tea doesn’t like any fuss!

Put into your teapot as many spoons of tea as many people there are at your table.

Pour the boiled water and leave it for 3-5 minutes.

The English often use sandglass for measuring the time.

Nowadays tea in teabags is often used. Pour the boiled water into your cup and put a tea bag there.

2: Now we have time to look at our tables.

The table should be covered with a white or blue table-cloth.

You may decorate the table with white flowers.

All the dishware should belong to one service, also white or blue or white and blue.

Put on the table cups, tea-saucers, a tea-pot, a sugar bowl, a jug with milk, a jug with boiled water. Don’t forget about tea-spoons and table-napkins!

Serve the table with delicious foods: finger sandwiches with butter and cucumbers, chocolate cakes, finger biscuits, traditional British scones, crumpets, fruit cakes, Victoria sponge, ginger bread, fruits and so on.

1: On your tables there are cards with traditional British recipes. Take them with you and cook something real British at home.

2: And now some more rules.

It is accepted to hold a cup with three fingers: a thumb, a forefinger, a middle-finger. A ring-finger and a little finger should be pressed to the middle of the palm.

When the guests are sitting at the table, they hold only the cup in your hand. When they are in the sofa or in the arm-chair, they hold the cup with the tea-saucer at breast height.

Never wave or hold your tea cup in the air. When the cup is not in use, place it back in the tea saucer.

Do not use your tea to wash down food. Sip, don’t slurp, your tea and swallow before eating.

1: Now our tea is ready, let’s pour it into your cups.

If your tea is in tea bags, remove the tea bag from the cup and place it on a side saucer.

If tea is drunk with milk, pour milk at first, about a quarter of a cup, and then add tea.

If you want to have lemon, take your cup with the left hand, press the slice of lemon with your right hand, then take it away and put on your tea-saucer.

Be sure never to add lemon with milk since the lemon's citric acid will cause the milk to curdle.

Now you can add sugar. Take it with a common spoon. It shouldn’t contact with tea in your cup. Then stir sugar with your spoon and out it on a special tray.

Stir your tea correctly. Place your tea spoon at the six o'clock position and softly fold the liquid towards the twelve o'clock position two or three times.

Either place the iced teaspoon on the side of another plate or ask the server or hostess to remove the spoon from the table. Never leave the spoon in the glass especially when actually drinking your tea.

Add to the tea-pot boiled water and cover it with a tea-cosy.

1: Help yourself!

2: A great attention is paid to conversation during the tea. There are some very strong rules. In some etiquette-books it is proposed to make a special “menu” of topics and put it on the tables. It will help to keep the conversation.

1: We will not have a conversation of high society; we have a tea-quiz.

You’ll get small sweets for every correct answer but don’t hurry to eat them. These sweets will help us to find out a winner of our quiz.

  3. In 1851 a law was passed which limited the realization of alcohol drinks but supported the realization of tea, coffee, etc. Among the English this law had a special name. What was it? (“A five-oclock-law”. It had a point that all executives, workers and sailors had to have a tea-break at 5 pm)

  4. What is the oldest English tea-company? (Twinning’s. Nowadays it imports tea from India, China, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Indonesia and Brazil. Twinning’s produces 198 blends of tea and exports them to 115 countries in Europe, Asia and America)

Scones (allrecipes.co.uk)

Ingredients: 3 cups all-purpose flour, 1/2 cup white sugar, 5 teaspoons baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 3/4 cup butter, 1 egg beaten, 1 cup milk

Directions

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Lightly grease a baking sheet.

  • In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Cut in butter. Mix the egg and milk in a small bowl, and stir into flour mixture until moistened.

  • Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface, and knead briefly. Roll dough out into a 1/2 inch thick round. Cut into 8 wedges, and place on the prepared baking sheet.

Bake 15 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden brown.

Сrumpets (allrecipes.co.uk)

Ingredients: 2 cups all-purpose flour, 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour, 2 teaspoons quick-rise instant yeast, 1 teaspoon white sugar, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1 1/4 cups warm water (44 – 48° C), 1 1/4 cups warm milk (44 – 48° C), 4 3-inch metal cookie cutters with open tops or crumpet molds, cooking spray

Directions

  • Whisk 2 cups plus 2 tablespoons flour, yeast, sugar, and salt in a large mixing bowl. Combine water and milk in a separate bowl and quickly whisk the milk mixture into the dry ingredients until batter is thick and smooth. Cover with a towel and let rise in a warm place until spongy, about 1 hour. Stir dough to reduce sponginess.

  • Place a rack into the oven and preheat to 150 degrees F (65 degrees C).

  • Spray a skillet and round metal open-top cookie cutters or crumpet molds with cooking spray. Heat skillet over medium-low heat, place the metal cutters or molds into the skillet, and let the molds heat up. Spoon batter into the molds, filling them about halfway. Let the crumpets cook until the bottoms are browned, the tops appear nearly dry, and popped bubbles appear on top, about 5 minutes.

Use tongs to lift molds out of the pan; remove molds from the crumpets. Flip and return crumpets to skillet to cook the other sides until browned, 1 to 2 more minutes. Repeat with remaining dough. Keep cooked crumpets warm on rack in the preheated oven while you cook remaining crumpets.

Chocolate Victoria sponge (allrecipes.co.uk)

Ingredients: 150g butter or margarine, 150g caster sugar, 110g self-raising flour, 40g cocoa powder, 3 medium sized eggs, 165g icing sugar, 35g cocoa powder, 100g softened butter, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

  • Preheat the oven to 200 C / 180 C fan / Gas 6.

  • Cream the fat with the sugar.

  • Sift in the flour and cocoa, add the eggs and mix until the mixture is completely combined.

  • Divide the mixture between to cake tins, then place the cakes into the oven for about 15 minutes, or until cakes have risen and are srpingy to touch.

  • Turn out onto a wire rack and leave to cool completely.

  • Cream the icing sugar, cocoa, butter and vanilla together, using a little water if needed. Turn one of the cakes over so that the top is on the bottom. Spread half of the mixture onto it, and then take the other cake and place it on top, so the top is on top. If you have enough butter cream left at the end, spread it round the outsides so that the cake is completely covered, except the bottom.

Leave the frosting to set a little before serving.
