“High
Level IV”
Ladies and
gentlemen, dear friends! I'm very pleased to welcome you at our traditional
game «High Level». It's «High Level IV» today. The topic of the last game «High
Level III» was the United States of America. Today we are going to discover
Australia. You'll learn some more facts about the history of Australia, its
cities, famous people and wildlife.
Let me introduce the participants of the game. Two teams of five
students are taking part in the game: the team from our school and our friends
from school 6. Welcome the participants!
Will
you, please, introduce yourselves? We are happy to see you again. Thank you.
And
now let me introduce the jury of the game: Olga Yurijevna Filipova - the
chairman of the jury, Anna Starodubtseva - a student of class 10 from school №6,
and Eugeny Telegin - a student of class 8 from our school.
Now pay attention to the rules of the
game:
Slide 3. The rules of the game
1. You'll have to
answer the questions choosing one answer out of three or four.
2. If the answer is
correct you'll get a cap- one point.
3. If your answer is
not correct you won't get any points.
4. Twice during the
game you can ask your mates to help you.
5. The team with the
most points wins.
And one more thing: you have a list
of glossary on your desks. It will help you to understand the questions.
Now, the captains, could you come
up and choose the cap?
So, one team is “Green”, the other
team is “Gold”.
And now look at these smart
students:
Anastasia Popova;
Gleb Pirko;
Irina Tokareva;
Alina Buzina;
Anna Tatarintseva;
Yana Manyashina.
They have kindly agreed to help me.
So, let's get started!
Slide 4. “Amazing
Australia’
Australia
is a fascinating country. It is full of strange and wonderful places, unusual
animals and amazing culture. It is sometimes called the “Land Down Under”.
Slide 5. The map of Australia
Australia
is the only country that has the whole continent to itself! However, a lot of
it is empty. There are only 20 million people, and most of them live in the
eight large cities: (cities on the map) Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane,
Adelaide, Perth, Darwin and Townsville.
It
is still a monarchy and Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain is also Queen of
Australia. But now Australia is an independent state.
Australia
lies in the Southern Hemisphere, so everything there is the other way round.
Hot winds blow from the north; cold winds blow from the south. The farther
north you go, the hotter it gets.
Well,
it’s high time to start our quiz. So, look at the first block of questions.
Slide 6. A Fascinating Country
Here
you can see a table of sixteen questions. You are to choose one of them in
turns. So, who’ll start? Choose a cap.

6. Surprise. Bonus: + 1 point
Dear
friends, you are going to listen to a poem “Sunsets” by Marco Luis.
Ekaterina
Strelnikova, a talented student of class 8, made a translation of the poem.
Beautiful sunsets Heavenly skies
If you listen closely you can hear
Animal cries.
They’re calling their daughters
They’re calling their sons.
And when they hear it, they run to their
mums.
Night is arriving
Animals are preparing to sleep.
Owls are awakening
They’re starting to creep.
A lot of dark hours pass
A mother wakes up to say,
“Wake up little cubs.
Be
prepared for a brand new day.”

|
Thank you, Katya, very much.
