My best friend is ________. She (he) is my classmate and we’ve become friends since began going to the same school. My friend is handsome (attractive) with fair hair and blue eyes. He (She) is tall and slim. She (he) is a very kind, friendly, sociable and open-hearted girl with a lot of interests. He (She) is honest, understanding, reliable and intelligent. He (she) is pleasant to deal with her (him).We get on well with each other.

What I like best in my friend is that she (he) is always willing to help me and share

his(her) knowledge. I rely on him (her) in any situation. I respect my friend for his (her) intellect, kindness and responsibility. Of course, sometimes we don’t understand each other and quarrel but then we try to explain each other our point of view.

She is keen on literature and foreign languages. I like foreign languages, too, so I can tell we have much in common. We listen to the same music, we like to read the same magazines, and we are fond of the same actors and actresses. Though we don’t see each other very often because of much homework to do, we meet at the weekends and during the holidays and then we chat on everything. As for me, I am a communicative person that’s why I have a lot of friends at school but I have only several true friends whom I can totally trust.

In my friend I look for understanding, willing to help and to share knowledge, having the same interests and hobbies.

 Of course, I value my friends because they make my life happier and more interesting. Besides, I think it is difficult to find a real friend.

We like to get together in each other’s houses and listen to music and download it from the internet. We often talk about our favourite singers, sing songs, exchange CDs and posters. Another common interest is sport. Sport helps us to keep fit and healthy. Besides, sport gives us real pleasure and helps to escape from everyday problems.

 I think it is important to have friends, because friends bring sunlight into our life. Real   friends understand, help, respect and trust each other.  Friendship makes people feel strong and self-confident.

I think that it is very important to help out at home especially when parents have a full-time job. So I try to help them. For example, I sometimes help prepare dinner and I always wash the dishes after meals. I’m also responsible for keeping my room clean and tidy.Besides, I take away the rubbish. On Sundays I help my mother with the shopping.

As for me, I don’t have enough free time because I have to do my homework. If I have free time, I like to watch TV or surf the Net. I also like reading detectives.

Personally, I like my home because it is a friendly place and I always feel comfortable there with my family.

I would like to have my own room. It would be nice to have a spacious room with only my things where I would be able to do whatever I want to do.

As for me, I enjoy different sports such as tennis, volleyball, basketball, football, figure-skating and hockey.

 Best of all I love swimming because it is a good exercise for the whole body. Swimming helps me to stay in good shape, to keep fit and to be healthy. Besides; it helps me to work off my extra energy. I also like basketball very much.It`s great because I play with my friends and we have a lot of fun.

In my opinion, there is the difference between sports and physical activities. I think sport takes a lot of energy and time. Some sports can be dangerous. As a result, people have broken legs, arms and other injuries. Besides, some sports can be rather exhausting, for example, gymnastics, because professional sportsmen train all day long and have to follow a special diet. On the other hand, physical activity is definitely useful. It is very important to lead an active lifestyle. Doing morning exercises, jogging, working in the garden, cycling   and going to school on foot is really good for health.

As for me, I enjoy different sports such as tennis, volleyball, basketball,

Besides, it helps me to   work off my extra energy. Finally, you can swim in the sea or a river, or you can go to a swimming pool.

Some people argue that sport is not very useful. It takes a lot of energy and time. As a result of doing sports, people have broken legs, arms and other injures. I agree with them that extreme sport can be rather dangerous.

In my opinion, people can’t do without sport. First of all, sport builds our character. It teaches us to win and to lose as well to overcome difficulties. It goes without saying that sport makes us more organized and disciplined. Besides, it’s a good way to spend free time and to make new friends.

            I must say that I don’t have much free time as I have to do my best to study well at school. I go to school six days a week, my only day off is Sunday, that’s why I like it very much. You needn’t hurry anywhere and you may do whatever you like after your week’s work. On this day I get up later, make my bed, have breakfast, help my Mum about the house, spend two hours on my homework and think over my plans on this day. Usually I meet with my friends; we may go to the cinema as I prefer to watch a nice film without these endless breaks for numerous ads. Besides we can discuss the film together sitting in a small café or wandering around the city or walking in the park. Sometimes we go to discos or to the concert if there are our favourite groups on a tour in Sochi. We like to get together in each other’s houses and listen to music and download it from the internet. We often talk about our favourite singers, sing songs, exchange CDs and posters. Another common interest is sport. Sport helps us to keep fit and healthy. Besides, sport gives us real pleasure and helps to escape from everyday problems.. In the evening I like to sit in the living-room with a nice book to read, I prefer fiction and don’t like thrillers at all, as I hate violence. We have a nice library at home; all the members of my family are fond of reading, and, frankly speaking, we share our literary interests. And of course I surf the Net   and play on-line games when I have free time.

 If I had more free time I would prefer traveling around the world, visiting different places both in Russia and abroad because it’s so nice to meet other people, to learn about their customs and traditions, to taste their food and to take a lot of pictures

It’s important to have free time not only to have a rest but also to have time for your hobby

Entertainment.

·        What kinds of entertainment are most popular with young people?

·        Do you think people spend too much time watching TV?

 

Personally, I think there are some entertainment facilities where I live. There are theatres, cinemas, clubs, parks, cafés, restaurants and some museums in Sochi. For those who are interested in sports, there are stadiums, gyms and a swimming pool.

There is an Internet café in my neibourhood   and I’d like to see some improvements in it. For example, I’d like to have an extra room in it, where young people could just sit and chat with friends. What is more, I’d like to see more cafes for young people where young people could celebrate holidays and birthdays.

I think going to the cinema and doing sports are the most popular with young people. Besides, young people like visiting each other’s homes. Swapping DVDs and listening to music are very popular.

In my opinion, some people spend too much time watching TV instead of doing sports or reading books. They lead a coach potato lifestyle. They are TV addicts and can’t live without TV.

A hobby is something you enjoy doing in your free time, such as reading, listening to music, making things, collecting travelling, doing sport, dancing, watching TV. People have hobbies because it’s a perfect way to spend their free time and not to feel bored. Besides, hobbies are often educational as people can learn new things. For example, travelling to other countries is very interesting. You can discover new places and new ways of life, to try national food and make new friends. Stamp collecting can tell you lots of different things about the theme of your collection.

As for me, my friends share my interests. We like listening to music and download it from the internet. We often talk about our favourite singers, sing songs, exchange CDs and posters. Another common interest is sport. Sport helps us to keep fit and healthy. Besides, sport gives us real pleasure and helps to escape from everyday problems.

As I have already said, I’m fond of sport. I would like to take part in sports competitions with my friends.

                                                     Books

·        Should people read more books or not?

·        Why do you think people do not read books very often?

 As for me I prefer books to magazines. I like detectives because they have thrilling, mysterious plots and unusual endings. There is a suspense till the end of the story.  I am captivated by characters who conduct investigations. Unfortunately, I haven’t got enough time to read newspapers during the week.

I can’t say that I’m a bookworm but I spend 2 or 3 hours reading my favourite book. Of course, we study literature at school but that’s usually classic works from golden era of Russian literature. Honestly speaking, I like reading modern literature where the main characters are like me, with problems similar to mine.

I think people should read more books, in books you can find the answers to all your questions. Besides, they build our character and teach us to be kind, honest and sympathetic. Finally, reading is the perfect way to spend free time and not to feel bored. Encyclopedias, reference books and dictionaries help pupils to do well at school.

I think television is to blame. It is easier to watch a serial on TV than read a book. Reading a book requires concentration and time.

Music

 My favourite singer is Beyonce (Christina Maria Aguilera).She is a fantastic   singer.

I like her because she is very pretty and she has a very beautiful and powerful voice. I   have been her fan for about 3 years. Personally, I think she is gorgeous and   extremely talented.  I admire her style of singing. I find it fascinated and    overwhelming. When I have free time, I can’t help listening to her CDs.

I like many different types of music, but mostly I am fond of pop music because it is breathtaking and full of energy. When I listen to pop music, it makes me forget the problems of everyday life and it helps me to relax when I’m tired.

It goes without saying that music plays a very important role in our life. It reflects our moods and emotions. Music appeals to our souls and conquers our hearts. Besides, listening to music is a perfect way to spend free time not to feel bored. You can hardly find a person who doesn’t like music, who never sings or dances.

Hobby

·        Why is it important for people to have a hobby?

·        Why do different people have different hobbies?

·        What hobby would you like to take up?

·        How can hobby help you make friends?

A hobby is something you enjoy doing in your free time, such as reading, listening to music, making things, collecting, travelling, doing sport,

dancing, watching TV. People have hobbies because it’s a perfect way to spend their free time and not to feel bored. Besides, hobbies are often educational as people can learn new things. For example, travelling to other countries is very interesting. You can discover new places and new ways of life, to try national food and make new friends.

Different people like doing different things, so I can say that people have different hobbies. We can say, «So many men, so many hobbies». People choose hobbies according to their interests, tastes and abilities

 As for me, my hobbies are playing computer games and surfing the Net. However, I don’t   have enough time for my hobbies as I’ve got too much homework. If I had more free time, I’d take up photography. It’s really exciting. As I like travelling very much I will be able to take pictures of nature, famous landscapes and monuments.

In my opinion, having a hobby is a good chance to find a friend with the same interests. Hobby makes friendship stronger.

  As for me, I don’t always follow (keep up with) the latest fashions. I think some of the fashions look a bit silly and impractical. For example. high –heeled shoes look lovely but it is difficult to walk. In my opinion, looking clean and tidy is more important than looking stylish.(It is important for me to feel comfortable/ Looking smart is very important to me/ I don’t care what to wear/I like getting dressed up).What is more, everyone should find their own style to express their individuality.

I prefer casual (formal) style because I know it suits me and makes me feel free. Typical clothes in this style are jeans, baggy trousers, T-shirts, tops and everything comfortable. I like wearing sport shoes and flat shoes.  I prefer cotton clothes. My favourite colour is______, so I look nice in______. I think______matches my eyes.

I realize that different situations need different clothes. When I go out with my friends, I usually wear jeans and a T-shirt in summer. In winter I wear a woolen jumper, a jacket and boots to keep me warm. Even when I go to a party, I dress casually because I want to feel relaxed. But I try to look smart and modern (classy) and sometimes put on a trendy dress (a suit) for a change.

Honestly speaking, I think clothes for teens are too expensive .In fact, they spend a lot of money to buy fashionable jeans or a smart T-shirt. As for me, I love spending money on different clothes. I’m addicted to shopping.

In my opinion, boys and girls pay attention to fashion differently. Girls are more interested in fashion than boys.

As for me, I wouldn’t mind introducing a fashionable school uniform because it is practical and I don’t need to think what to wear to school.

Task№ 1

                                                 Shopping

Some people like shopping and they are addicted to shopping, others don’t but they all have to  go shopping because they need  food and other things for their life .So we can’t live without shopping.

Our family usually does the shopping at the weekends and we do it together. We prefer to go to shopping center «Olymp» which sells a great variety of goods.Besides,it has a lot of free parking space so we can park our car without any problems. If we are tired of shopping, we can have a rest at Rostics’ or go bowling. So in my opinion it is comfortable and amusing to do the shopping in «Olymp»My mum always gives me a free hand in choosing my clothes. If I need some expensive clothes or shoes we go shopping together, but I can buy such things as CDs, books, T-shirts by myself. I also buy some bread or dairy products for everyday use.

The usual department store consists of many departments such as ready-made clothes, fabrics, footwear, sports goods, leather goods, electric appliances, cosmetics, household items, jewellery and others.

I think Internet may become the main way of buying in the future because it is very convenient when you buy expensive things because you may compare the prices in different Internet-shops and choose what you want sitting at home. Besides, you don’t need to waste time getting to the shop: all the goods will be delivered to your place at any convenient time.

·        Why is it important to study hard?

My school is located not far from the city centre, It is a gymnasium where much attention is paid to studying hishory, literature and foreign languages. My school is 4 story- building with   a big stadium and sports grounds behind where we have our PE lessons in spring and autumn. There are about 1200 students in my school. On the ground floor there is a library, a canteen, a headmistress’s room, a secretary room and a doctor’s office. On the first floor we have a teacher’s room, a gym, an assembly hall and Russian and Literature classrooms. On the second and third floors we have computer classes, chemistry, biology and physics labs, English and History classrooms. Our classrooms are well- equipped with computers, videos and white boards. They are big and cozy. There is also a special department for primary children.

I study many subjects at school such as Maths, Russian, Literature, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, PE, IT, History. As for me, I  am interested in English, History and Literature.

I think I get on well with my classmates. My classmates are friendly and clever. They help me with my lessons if I need it. We sometimes have a good time together celebrating some holidays or somebody’s birthdays. I always feel OK with my classmates.

To cut the long story short, I enjoy studying in the gymnasium because I think it gives me profound knowledge in different subjects. Besides, it helps me to realize and demonstrate my individual talents. Our teachers are well-qualified, friendly and attentive. Our school offers us many out –of- class activities. Our social and cultural life is well-organised.We have traditional activities such as Subjects` weeks, Intellectual Marathon, Miss Gymnasium. But best of all I like sports competitions because I `m good at sports and take part in competitions.

Yet there are some things I don’t like some things. For example, food in our canteen is disgusting and the choice of dishes is poor.

In my opinion, it is very important to study hard. If I study well, I’ll be able to pass my final exams and enter the university and become a travel manager.

I study many subjects at school such as Maths, Russian, Literature, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, PE, IT, History. But best of all I like English. I think English is a very important and beautiful language. It is the most widespread language of the world. It is the language of   computer software, literature, education and modern music. As for me, I like listening to music and singing songs in English. It is very interesting to understand lyrics of the songs. I sometimes watch films and TV programmes in English. I also need English when I use computer and surf the Net. I often send e-mails in English to my friends from different countries.

     Our English lessons are very interesting. At the lesson we speak on     different   subjects, discuss interesting problems, read texts, ask and answer    questions,     do   projects     and    presentations. We have an interactive board in the classroom so we often watch interesting presentations and do online exercises.   We also sing English songs and listen to CDs. I also like Literature and History. Teachers tell us a lot of interesting things and facts .They teach us think independently and express our own thoughts.

In my opinion, English will be useful for my life and future career.

As I am going to be tourist manager, I need to know English very well. I think if you know English, you can get a better highly- paid job and people will respect you more.   Our school offers us many out –of- class activities. Our social and cultural life is well

In my opinion, English is easier to learn than many other foreign languages because its grammar is not complicated .However, English pronunciation is rather difficult. There are a lot of exceptions to rules and I have to look up words in the dictionary to check up their pronunciation. Besides, English is very idiomatic and prepositions are terrible.

I can’t say which activity is the most important in learning English: listening, speaking, reading. I think that all these activities are very important .I like all activities but most of all I prefer reading. It’s very enjoyable because while reading I can learn some information about English-speaking countries. Besides, reading is easier for me than listening or speaking.

As for me, I am studying English. I am happy that I study English. English is the most widespread language of the world. More than 750 million people speak English. For the people living in English-speaking countries, such as the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, it is the native language. It is the language of computer software, literature, education, Olympic Games and modern music.

Honestly speaking, I enjoy studying English because it is a very beautiful language. I like all activities but most of all I prefer reading. It’s very enjoyable because while reading I can learn some information about English-speaking countries. What is more, when I read English books, I learn lots of new words and enlarge my vocabulary. Besides, reading is easier for me than listening or speaking. Today we have an opportunity to find interesting English websites and to enjoy this language. As for me, listening to music and singing songs in English is very useful too. It is very interesting to understand lyrics of the songs. I like watching films and TV programmes in English. It is really amazing and educational.

I have been studying English since the second form.

I think it is very important to learn foreign languages .First of all, knowledge of foreign languages helps to make a person educated and well-rounded. Secondly, some people learn languages because they need them in their work, others travel abroad

                                                         Summer jobs                                              

·        Why do teenagers do summer jobs?

·        Do any of your friends/brothers/sisters do summer jobs? What jobs are they?

·        Would you like to do summer job? Why/why not?

·         How do teenagers spend money they earn?

    I think the main reason why teenagers do summer jobs is that they want to        earn   some pocket money or earn money for something special.That`s why they try to find a part-time job in summer.

As for my friends, they do summer jobs. They usually wash cars, work at MacDonald’s or in the shops. They sometimes deliver newspapers and advertise goods or help their parents doing errand-running. Our school often suggests summer jobs. For example, last summer my friends had a summer practice at the bread factory and they were given a salary.

Honestly speaking, I`d like to do summer job because I want to earn money  for  going to London with my classmates on holidays.

Teenagers spend money they earn on mobile phone, CDs,  computer games,the cinema and clothes.

Today there are thousands of different kinds of jobs. Among the jobs that are popular with teenagers are those in economic, tourist or computer fields. For example, a manager, a computer programmer, a web designer.

As for me, I would like to become a tourist agent or a manager, because a lot of people travel nowadays. In my opinion, tourism is one of the world’s largest industries. It is very interesting to work in tourism because you will have to deal with the problems and needs of holidaymakers and plan trips and tours.Besides, this profession is highly paid. What is more, I will be able to travel free of charge and see the world.

I can say that I’m very communicative. Besides, I’m very organized and hard-working. What is more, I like travelling and I `m ready to go wherever the company will send me. So I think I can become a good tourist manager. But I understand that to be a good specialist in this field I should have good education and know foreign languages very well.

I think it won’t be difficult for me to find a job because travelling is very popular. There is no doubt that without good education I won’t be able to find an interesting and highly paid job because every company needs well-qualified employees.

Task№ 1

                                                    Great Britain

When I think of Great Britain I usually imagine a very green country with lots of beautiful gardens and parks because the British love flowers very much and you can see them everywhere. No wonder some of them have become the symbols of the UK.I also imagine the Houses of Parliament with Big Ben which is the symbol of this country.

People travel to Great Britain for different reasons. First of all, they want to see London,     its capital, because it is the most important city in Great Britain. There are a lot of famous landmarks, such as Westminster Abbey, the Tower of London, the Houses of Parliament with Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, St.Paul`s Cathedral, London Eye and Madam Tausaud`s Museum. Some people are interested in visiting mysterious places like Stonehenge or Loch Ness.Besides; everybody wants to try traditional British dishes such as fish and chips. Another important reason is learning English. It goes without saying that the best way to learn a language is to speak with native speakers.

     I’d like to visit London,   its capital, because it is the most important city in Great     Britain. There are a lot of famous landmarks, such as Westminster Abbey, the Tower of London, the Houses of Parliament with Big Ben, Buckingham Palace,St.Paul`s Cathedral.Besides,I also want to visit Stratford –upon-Avon because it’s the birthplace of the greatest British  playwright William Shakespeare.

I live in Sochi. It is a popular Russian holiday resort on the Black Sea coast. Sochi stretches for 145 km along the Black Sea coast. It consists of 4 regions: Tsentr, Lazarevskoe, Khosta and Adler. Population is …… High mountains defend our town from the cold north winds. So the climate is warm and we have no cold frosty winters here. Our town is very beautiful and attractive for people. Sochi is a garden-city. It is covered with parks and gardens. There are a lot of evergreen trees and rare species of plants and flowers.

 Sochi is famous for its warm weather, beautiful landscapes, health spas and wonderful sea. I am proud that Winter Olympic Games will be held in Sochi in 2014. Every year a lot of tourists come in Sochi to have a rest, to swim in the warm sea and visit interesting places.

Sochi is rich in places of interest.I`d like to show many sights such as  the Riviera park, Mount Akhun,Tea farm in Dagomys,theDendrarium,theTree of Friendship .The excursion to Krasnaya Polyana will be unforgettable. It was the center   of sporting competitions of 2014 Winter Olympic Games. Krasnaya Polyana is a good place for sportsmen and holiday-makers in summer and winter.If you like skiing, welcome to Krasnaya Polyana in winter. Experienced sportsmen as well as beginners can find a suitable slope to practice skiing. So every person who comes to our town can find activities for his taste and we say “Welcome to Sochi, the town of Winter Olympic Games 2014”

        As for me, I prefer to live in the city because I am keen on visiting theatres, cinemas   and museums. Besides, my city offers great opportunities to continue my education and I hope to find good   job in the future.

  I live in Sochi. It is situated on the Black Sea coast. High mountains defend our town from the cold north winds. So the climate is warm and we have no cold frosty winters here. Our town is very beautiful and attractive for people. Every year a lot of tourists come in Sochi to have a rest, to swim in the warm sea and visit interesting places. One of them is Park Riviera. It is my favourite place. Park Riviera is in the centre of the town. It’s a large park with different plants and flowers. There are some interesting places in the park. For example, the Glade of Friendship, where you can see trees which were planted by famous people visiting our town. In the park you can visit the summer theatre, different attractions for children, Aquarium with fish from all over the world, the alley of Russian writers and a lot of cafes where you can try Caucasian meals.

So every person who comes to our town can find activities for his taste and we say “Welcome to Sochi, the town of Winter Olympic Games 2014”.

The only thing I don’t like in Sochi is traffic jams. They annoy me because it takes me long time to get to any place. Nethertheless, I believe that in a few years things will change and new roads and bridges will be built.

As for me, I wouldn’t like to live in other country because I love my native city and my country. But I don’t mind studying in Great Britain or travelling abroad

My favourite holiday is of course New Year which is celebrated on the 31^st of December. It’s the time when we see the Old Year off and the New Year in. I like the festive atmosphere of this holiday. Traditionally, we decorate a New Year tree and put presents under it.

   I usually celebrate it at home with my family and my relatives because I think it’s the coolest family celebration. I enjoy the family meal, which is a central part of our celebration. At 10 minutes to midnight the President makes his traditional speech. When the Kremlin clock strikes twelve we wish each other “Happy New Year” and give presents. After midnight there is a stunning fireworks display which is the icing on the cake. I also like to let off fireworks and pull crackers myself. Loud bangs and the sparkling lights of the fireworks create a stunning atmosphere which is unforgettable. Then I usually watch TV programmes or go to a disco with my friends. So I don’t go to bed till morning. New Year is certainly a great celebration. I feel happy to be with my family and friends.

As for other holidays, I always celebrate my birthday. I also  like Women` s day ,Victory Day and Saint Valentine’s Day.

 Personally, I enjoy celebrating holidays. For me, a holiday is not just a day off but a special occasion and I usually prepare for it beforehand .First of all, I think that holidays are an important way to keep up our traditions. Besides, it’s a good chance to bring the family together and to meet all your friends and relatives together. What is more, I like this festive atmosphere behind celebrations when my mum cooks special meal and people give and receive presents. In conclusion I must say it’s impossible to imagine my life without holidays. I prepare for them, look forward to them and have a fantastic time.

Veterans Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Martin Luther King’s Day. Americans also celebrate Christmas, Easter, Halloween and St. Valentine’s Day. The main holidays in Russia are New Year’s Day, Women’s day, Victory Day, Defender of Motherland Day, Independence Day and May Day. There are also some religious holidays: Christmas and Easter

My favourite writer is Arthur Conan Doyle because I am fond of detectives. He started the fashion for detective stories. I like detectives because they have thrilling, mysterious plots and unusual endings. There is a suspense till the end of the story.  I am captivated by characters who conduct investigations.

A. Conan Doyle is famous for creating the most brilliant detective Sherlock Holmes.

S.Holmes is the main character of his books. His extraordinary power of observation helps him solve the most mysterious cases with the help of his faithful companion Dr. Watson. Holmes is extremely intelligent, but very sarcastic. He wears a cape, hat, smokes a pipe and uses a magnifying glass.

I am sure that books help us in our life. First of all, in books you can find the answers to all your questions. Besides, they build our character and teach us to be kind, honest and sympathetic. Finally, reading is the perfect way to spend free time and not to feel bored.

Encyclopaedias, reference books and dictionaries help pupils to do well at school.

They are famous because people highly appreciate the things they do. We enjoy famous singers because of their songs and of course we are fond of books by famous British and American writers and poets like W.Shakespeare, Robert Burns, Charles Dickens, Mark Twain, Agatha Christie, Walter Scott, A. Conan Doyle, Jack London, Ernest Hemingway and others. We admire films with such talented actors as Tom Cruise, Harrison Ford, Bruce Willis, and Julia Roberts. We can’t imagine America without the names of M.Jackson and Elvis Presley. The whole world knows the names of great inventors: Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, Alexander Bell and many others.

It is not difficult to find information about famous people now that we have got the Internet which allows us to find information about everything. You can visit websites devoted to the famous celebrity and get the latest news. Moreover, I usually download lots of photos from the Internet.It`s very convenient. But of course I also read different magazines where I can find useful information.

I think that talent is very important but you can’t be successful in life without good education.

  A lot of people travel nowadays. Today people have lots of reasons to      travel. First of all, travelling is a part of education. It goes without saying that it’s always interesting to discover new places and new ways of life, to try national food and to listen to unusual musical      rhythms. Besides, travelling is a good way to practice foreign languages. Another    reason    why people travel is to relax. City-dwellers usually like a quiet holiday by the sea or in the mountains, with nothing to do but walk and sunbathe.   Finally,        more     and       more people nowadays travel around the world   on   business.                                             

I think it’s very important to speak the language of a country you’re visiting.

It goes without saying that the best way to learn a language is to speak with native speakers. When you visit a country there is a great opportunity to communicate with native speakers or to listen to their speech. Besides, when you speak the language of a country you’re visiting, people are often a lot more friendly and helpful.

If I have a lot of money, I will go to Great Britain because I `d like to see famous landmarks and practice English. What is more, it is interesting to get to know the English lifestyle as well as English customs and traditions.

As for me, I prefer travelling with my friends to travelling alone. It is more interesting and enjoyable.

 I live in Russia. My country is beautiful and great. I think there are a lot of things to see and do in Russia. First of all, tourists can visit Moscow the capital city of Russia and St.Petersburg.They have impressive cathedrals and churches, wonderful palaces and interesting museums ,as well as famous theatres and art galleries. Petersburg is also famous for its fountains and parks. Moscow and St.Petersburg are worth visiting. Then tourists can go to the summer capital of Russia Sochi.

There are a lot of famous landmarks, such as Westminster Abbey, the Tower of London, the Houses of Parliament with Big Ben, Buckingham Palace,St.Paul`s Cathedral.Besides,I also want to visit Stratford –upon-Avon because it’s the birthplace of the greatest British  playwright William Shakespeare.

Well, you can learn about history, tradition and culture. It goes without saying that it’s always interesting to discover new places and new ways of life, to try national food and to listen to unusual musical rhythms. Besides, visiting a foreign country is a good way to practice a foreign language. That’s why I want to visit England

As for me, I like travelling very much. Last summer went to Moscow with my family. We went to Moscow by train. Our trip lasted a week.

Moscow is a beautiful city. There are a lot of things to do and to see in it. Moscow is famous for its impressive cathedrals and churches, wonderful palaces and interesting museums, as well as famous theatres and art galleries. I visited many landmarks such as the Kremlin, Red Square, the Tretyakov Gallery .During my trip I enjoyed the Tretyakov Gallery because I am interested in art. I admired masterpieces by Russian painters.

It was an unforgettable trip and Moscow is worth visiting. I took a lot of photos and bought many souvenirs.

Transport.

Well, my school is not far from my house. That`s why I usually go to school on foot. It takes me 10 or 15 min. to get to school.

There is a well-developed system of transport in Sochi. The city offers a great variety of transport such as buses, local buses, taxis, minivans. Because of the mountainous landscape there are no trolley-buses, trams and underground. Luckily, an excellent bus service connects all parts of our city. You don’t have to wait for a bus for a long time.

Of course, cars are more convenient than buses. However, they can create some problems. For example, traffic jams are common in our city because so many people prefer to use their cars.  Another serious problem is that cars cause air pollution because of their exhaust fumes and that’s especially true of older cars. People who drive around all the time instead of walking often complain that they are overweight, so that’s another disadvantage of cars as a means of transport. 

I think that it is very important to make our public transport environmentally friendly.  Buses that run on diesel pollute less than if everyone use their own cars. We should encourage people who use bicycles.

Our environment is in danger. Rare plants and animals are disappearing. Rivers, seas and air are polluted. People are dying of hunger. People destroy our environment by building roads and cities, developing industries, cutting down trees.

The most important ecological problems are air, water and nuclear pollution, acid rain, deforestation, littering, destruction of ozone layer, global warming, and destruction of wildlife.

People all over the world protest against nuclear testing and nuclear weapons because in case of nuclear war our planet will be completely destroyed.

If people want to survive, they must do their best to solve these problems. The protection of the environment requires the cooperation af all nations. There are a lot of environmental organizations such as Greenpeace and WWF, whose main goal is to save our environment. Teens may join these organizations. However, there are a lot of simple things we should all do to help our environment.

First of all, we must keep our city clean .That means, we mustn’t drop litter in the public places. If we see litter on the ground we must put it into the bin.Besides, we can plant trees, clean parks beaches, forests, school yards. We should recycle old paper, bottles, cans and reuse plastic bags. We should save electricity and not to waste water.Finally, we must change our attitude towards the

environment.

The woods and forests are filled with their songs.  Everything looks so fresh and beautiful. In spring my fiends and I are fond of going to the parks or to the forest. There are a lot of spring flowers there: violets, snowdrops and lilies of the valley. We, schoolchildren, like summer best of all, because we have the longest holidays of the year. We are out of school for 3 months. In summer we usually have hot and sunny weather.  The rains are warm and short. We sometimes can see the rainbow .We, who live in Sochi, can bathe in the sea and lie in the sun every day.

I think the best weather for study and work is when it isn’t rainy and stormy because such dull weather influences our mood badly. People become sleepy, sad and annoyed.

As for me, I don’t like getting dressed up and don’t keep up with the latest fashions. I like wearing comfortable casual clothes.  I prefer sporty style so my favourite outfit is jeans, a T-shirt or a jumper and trainers. But when I go to special occasion I usually wear smart outfit like a short dress and low -heeled shoes (suit).I like having accessories.

After summer comes autumn. I like autumn at the beginning, which is called «Indian Summer».Autumn brings many sweet fruits, vegetables and beautiful flowers. The leaves on the trees get yellow and red. They look so beautiful! I enjoy walking about the parks and forests, when the leaves begin to fall down from the trees and the ground is covered with them. Little by little the days become shorter and shorter and the nights longer. In October and November it often rains.

In winter it’s cold and it often snows. There is much snow on the ground. In winter we have the shortest days and the longest nights. It is difficult and unpleasant to get up early in the morning because it’s dark and cold. I can’t stand winter in Sochi because the weather is damp. It seldom snows in Sochi and it melts quickly. I like real Russian winter. Children can play snowballs and make snowmen. When there is much snow they like sledging, skiing and skating.It`s so beautiful in the streets when houses, trees and roads are white with snow.

There are 4 seasons in a year: spring, summer, autumn and winter.  As for me, I like all the seasons, but I think there is nothing like late spring. Best of all I like nature in spring. The days become longer and the nights become shorter. When spring comes nature awakens from its long winter sleep. The trees are in full blossom. The ground is covered with emerald-green grass and there are a lot of spring flowers in the forests and in the parks. The days are warm and everything is full of life and joy. The air is fresh. What is more, there are some great holidays in spring. They are: Women’s Day, Victory Day and May Day.

I like warm weather when the sky is blue and cloudless and the sun shines brightly. I prefer spending more time in the open air in such nice weather.

Today the weather is great.It`s sunny and warm.

As I have already said, I like all seasons and I wouldn’t like to have spring all the year round because every season is beautiful in its own way. There is a lot of things to do in each season.

Good health

I believe it is  important to think about our health when we are still young because this is the age when our body is being formed so if we don’t care about our body, we are likely have different diseases when we get older.

I think people should take care of health. First of all, it is very important to do sports or at least do morning exercises as well as to spend a lot of time in the open air. Secondly, we should avoid different bad habits that can affect our health. In my opinion, smoking, taking drugs and drinking alcohol are the worst habits. Smoking, for example, causes a number of heart and lung diseases such as pneumonia and cancer.

It goes without saying, we should eat healthy food. We shouldn’t eat fatty or junk food because we can put on weight and become obese and obesity leads to serious diseases. We shouldn’t eat too much chocolate, sweets and cakes because they are full of sugar and bad for our teeth. We should eat a lot of fruit, vegetables and dairy products. The English proverb says: «An apple a day keeps a doctor away».In conclusion I can say that food must be nourishing and appealing.

As for me, I am not a fussy eater. I like eating different food. In the morning I usually eat sandwiches or scrambled eggs. I also like pancakes with sour cream or jam. For dinner I like eating fried meat or chicken, pasta with cheese and tomato sauce. For dessert I enjoy eating fruits such as apples, pears, peaches, bananas, plumps, oranges or grapes. I also like cakes, sweets, cookies, pies and ice-cream because I have a sweet tooth. My favourite dish is pizza. I like eating pizza from time to time.

I can cook a little bit but I prefer when my mummy cooks. She is an excellent cook.

It goes without saying, it is very important to eat balanced and healthy food. We shouldn’t eat fatty or junk food because we can put on weight. We shouldn’t eat too much chocolate, sweets and cakes because they are full of sugar and bad for our teeth. We should eat a lot of fruit, vegetables and dairy products.   I usually have 4 meals a day. The first meal is breakfast. As I’m always short of time in the morning I just have light breakfast at…o’clock which consists of coffee or tea, cheese sandwich or boiled or scrambled eggs with a slice of bread and butter. The second meal of the day is lunch. I usually have it at school. As a rule I eat a hot dog or a bun and drink hot chocolate or juice. Dinner is the biggest meal. I have dinner at 2 o’clock. I usually have some green salad as a starter:  tomato and cucumber salad, cabbage salad, Russian salad or vinaigrette. For the first course I have some soup or borsch  for a change. I like mushroom soup. For the second course I eat fried or roast meat, chicken, cutlet with potatoes (mashed, boiled, fried) ,spaghetti with cheese and tomato sauce. I prefer meat to fish but my mum makes eat it. She says it’s good for my brains. For dessert I   have different fruits such as apple   pears,   peaches, bananas, plumps, oranges or grapes. Supper is the last meal of the day. I prefer sausages with pasta. I eat a lot of fresh vegetables such as green peas, corn, eggplants, radishes, lettuce and carrots and drink freshly-squeezed juice. They are rich in vitamins and make my skin clear.                                

My favourite dish is home-made pizza. I like eating it from time to time. I prefer Caucasian and Ukrainian cuisine. I like when my mum cooks hatchapuri,satzivi,Ukrainian borsch, pelmeny and vareniki.I also like cakes, sweets, cookies, pies and ice-cream because I have a sweet tooth.

As for me, I like cooking too. I can make sandwiches, salads, cakes, fry potatoes and scrambled eggs. I always help my mum cook and learn how to cook.

I fully agree with this proverb. We should have healthy and well-balanced breakfast. Our brain must get enough vitamins and minerals because teens have to study hard at school.

 Supper must be a light meal because it isn’t good to eat too much in the evening. .

In my opinion the best point of a mobile phone is they are convenient. First of all they are small and you can put it into your pocket or a bag.Besides,they allow us to send small messages, which are cheap.Finally.you can play games, surf the Net and download music.However,There are some bad points. Some people can’t live without their phones. They are addicted to them. As a result, they read less, talk less, move less. What is more, many people think that mobile phones are bad for our health. For example, radiation from mobile phones leads to cancer.

As for me, I have got a mobile phones and I use it everywhere to get in touch with my friends and parents fast.Moreover,Ican use my mobile phones as a calculator. I often send messages and download music and photos.

It is difficult to say which is better: oral or written communication. I think it depends on the purpose of communication. If you want to discuss something with friends or relatives, it is better to do it face-to-face. Written communication is very popular with teens. I prefer written communication because it is the fastest way to keep in touch with relatives and friends.

Computers

·        How often do teens use computers in your school or at home?

As far as I know, many teens in my school have computers at home and they spend a lot of time using them. At school we also have two computer classes where we have our IT lessons. Many students use the computers during breaks and after school.

Teens use computers to send emails, to find information for school work, to chat on-line with friends and they also surf the Net for fun. They download music, games, photos, films.

I think many students spend too much time on computes and not enough time on sports and being with their friends. Some students waste time on computes playing games and surfing the net instead of studying. As a result, they have problems at school and with parents. Besides, their eyesight gets worse.

As for me, I am a fan of modern technology. Of course I have a mobile phone, and a computer .I’d like to have an MP3 player. I could download my favourite music from the Internet and have it with me to listen to when I am out of the house.

Watching TV is the most popular leisure activity nowadays and it’s impossible to imagine our life without television today. It goes without saying that television is an essential part of people’s lives. We can learn about the world by watching TV. It is the easiest and the cheapest source of information. It educates us and gives the opportunity to travel without getting up from the sofa. There are different programmes on TV and you can choose any according to your choice and likes, as TV channels show documentaries and news, feature films and comedies, soap operas, quizzes, concerts, talk and reality shows and so on.

As for me, I am not a coach potato but I like spending 1 or 2 hours in front of the box watching my favourite TV programme.I like  watching different quizzes.That`s why my favourite TV programme is Who wants to be a millionaire? It is a game show where the player is asked different questions. I particularly like this programme because the questions   are interesting and they help me to expand my outlook.Besides,it is the best way to be in the know of everything. I think this programme clever and informative and try not to miss.                                       

As I haven’t got enough free time, I usually watch TV at the weekends or on holidays.                                              

As for Russian television, it has a lot of pros, because I think there are a lot of interesting programmes on TV. On the other hand there are badly-written programmes which contain bad language and violence that leads to greater violence in the streets. Another reason for the poor quality of the TV programmes is advertising, most of which is silly and boring, shows life unrealistically, gives untrue information and annoys when a film stops at the most interesting moment and you lose the thread of the film plot.

I think young people don’t watch too much TV nowadays because they prefer surfing the Net.

       As for me, I can’t imagine my life without computer and the Internet. Of course I have     access to the Internet at home.

I use it almost every day. Sometimes my parents get annoyed when I spend too much time in front of the computer surfing the Net. They say it is bad for my eyesight.

It goes without saying, the Internet is the main source of information because it allows me to find information about almost everything. I can find information for my schoolwork or find out about my hobby, sports or current events. A special computer programme, which is called a search engine, allows me to do it very quickly. It is much easier and faster to surf the Net than go to the library. I also surf the Net for fun. I download music, games, photos and films. I also like playing on-line games and watching films. I sometimes have online lessons and practice English.

Unfortunately, the information from the Internet isn’t always accurate. Sometimes they give untrue information.It`s up to you, to believe it or not. It  will be better to check up the information in other sources.

I also like educational programmes about wildlife when I can learn a lot about exotic animals and their habitats or endangered animals and their protection.

However, not all programmes are made in good taste. There are badly-written programmes which contain bad language and violence that leads to greater violence in the streets. Another reason for the poor quality of the TV programmes is advertising, most of which is silly and boring, shows life unrealistically, gives untrue information and annoys when a film stops at the most interesting moment and you lose the thread of the film plot. What is more, some people say that television is a terrible waste of time. Of course, there are TV addicts who spend too much TV. They communicate less, move less, read less , forget about homework and have problems with  eyesight.
