Ход урока
1. Организационный
момент -
сообщение темы и задач урока.
Good afternoon,
everybody!
First of all I
want you to tell me which month we have now. (It is March).
And what day of
the week is it today? (It is Monday.)
What date is it
today? (It is the 18th of March.)
Is anybody absent
today? (.... is/are absent/)
What's the matter
with him/her/them? (He/she/they is/are ill)
What topic have we
been working on? (We are working on the topic “Do you have any example to
follow?”)

So, our topic today is "How to honour
famous people". We spoke about famous people very much. We have learnt
many words and expressions on it. Now I want you to remember them. Look at the
blackboard and repeat after me:

the name of a famous person to (a planet, a star, an aeroplane, a park, a
street, a square, a building, a city); to make a monument to a famous person;
to make a poster (a T-shirt) with the information about a famous person.

There are many ways to honour famous
people. In Britain for example new banknotes have been introduced. The Queen is
still on one side. And on the other side of them are famous people of Britain.
On the new ten pound banknote the other side shows Charles Dickens and twenty
pound - Michael Faraday. Do you know who they were? Let's look up in the LCG.
Michael Faraday (1791 - 1867) - an English
chemist and physicist, who discovered the connection between electricity and
magnetism and produced the first dynamo.

And now I want you to read a short text
about an unusual monument in the USA.
Mount Rushmore
In South Dakota, USA, there is an
interesting place to visit. It's a granite (гранит) mountain. Four
faces are carved (высечены) on the mountain. They are the faces of
four famous presidents. The presidents are Washington, Lincoln, Jefferson and
Roosevelt. The construction of the monument began in 1925 and lasted till 1941
when the sculptor Gutzon Borglum died. Then his son finished the monument.
These gigantic heads are eighteen meters (sixty feet) high. They are carved out
of the granite of the mountain and are visible for over eighty kilometers. The
monument is now an important place of interest which is visited by thousands
every year. The name of this place is Mount Rushmore.

You can honour a person you admire and
look up to as well. Make your own project “People I am proud of”. You can name
new planets, stars, parks or cities after the person you are proud of.
- What do you want to name after
somebody?
- Why do you want to do it? Look at
this pictures, here are some ideas!
You can also make a poster or a T-shirt
with the information about the people you want to tell us about. Draw a picture
and explain your choice. This table will help you.
