Description of the lesson

This lesson plan is built according to The State Educational Standard. It is full of interesting activities which help to increase pupils’ language skills. The activities can also be used to  practise the Passive Voice, using the superlative and to give pupils the opportunity to work independently and autonomously.

                                        Theme of the lesson:  Famous statues.

Aims of the lesson:

educational aim:  - to practise the  Passive Voice in the affirmative and negative forms;

                                 -to practise talking about some famous statues in Uzbekistan, the                 

                                 UK    and the USA; 

developing aim: -to practise listening and reading for specific information;

                               -to practise comparing statues using the superlative ;

                               -to practise talking about a famous statue PP would like to have

                                 using  “will”;

upbringing aim:  -to bring pupils up in the spirit of democratic ideals and patriotism;

-         to learn PP to respect customs and traditions of other countries.

Type of the lesson: combined  (mixed), practical lesson

Methodology of the lesson: traditional, non-traditional, interactive

Views of the lesson: integrated with Geography and History, integrated skills lesson

Control types: multi checking, correct using of grammar, pronunciation, oral speech, creativeness

Organisational moment

Greeting, reporting of pupils on duty.

Good afternoon, pupils. I’m glad to see you.  Let’s begin our lesson. Sit down please.

-Who is on duty today?

-Who is absent?

-What date/day is it today?

-What season is it now?

-What is the weather like today?

-Do you like spring? Why?                                                   

Checking up the homework and revising the previous material.

T:-PP  what was your homework for today?

P:- Our homework was Ex. 1 at page 71. We should find sentences in the Passive and      translate them.

T:- OK. Before checking your homework, let’s revise how the Passive Voice is formed.

P1: The structure of the  Present Passive Voice is S+(am, is, are)+V3/Ved+C.

P2: The structure of  the  Past Passive Voice is S+(was, were)+V3/Ved+C.

T: Very good. Now we’ll check your homework.

PP  read sentences in Passive and translate them one by one .

T:- Well done.

T: - Now let me present you the theme of our today’s lesson. It’s “Famous statues”.

What statues do you know? What do you know about them?  Complete the claster.

Activity 1. Work in groups. Look at the pictures. Ask and answer.

Look at the pictures and answer the questions.

T: Now open your books at page 67. Look at the statues and answer the questions.

                        

1.     Have you ever seen these statues?          

2.     Do you know who made them?

3.     Do you know where are they?

4.     Do you know their names?

5.     Do you like them? Why? Why not?

Activity 2b.Work in groups of three. Ask and answer the questions.

PP work in groups. They ask and answer the questions. When PP are getting near the end, to bring the class together and discuss some of the answers with the whole class.

4.     Which words do you like best?

5.     Are there any statues in your place or near  your place?

6.     If you were in charge of the art budget for your place would you build statues?

Activity 3. Correct false sentences.

PP write corrected sentences in their Ex.Bks.

e.g. The statue of Liberty was not designed by Bailey. It was designed by Frederic Bartholdi.

1.The statue of Liberty was designed by Bailey.

2.The words “Strength is in justice” are written at the top of the statue of Amir Temur.

3. The statue of Admiral Nelson was paid for by American people.

4. The four famous lions which guard the foot of the Nelson’s column were added in 1872.

5.  The four famous lions are  made of steel.

6. The statue of Amir Temur was unveiled in 1991 in the centre of Bukhara.

Activity 4.Do crossword .

Pupils should do crossword by answering the questions.

1.     Where is the Statue of Amir Temur?

2.     Who was the Statue of Amir Temur designed by?

3.     What does the Statue of Liberty hold in the right hand?

4.     How many lions guard Nelson’s column?

5.     Which statue is symbol of freedom to millions around the world?
