II. Checking the hometask	On previous lesson we were speak about  Astana and London. What is the capital of our Republic? Independence  Day is usually one of the nation’s most important holiday. Independence Day is always celebrated as one of the brightest holidays in Kazakhstan. This year Kazakhstan celebrates the 25th anniversary of it’s Independence. III. New lesson	We all like to travel. Today we are going to talk about people whom do we call explorers. Can you name me Great or Famous Explorers or Travelers? Yes, James Cook, Marco Polo, Thomas Cook, Christopher Columbus, Shokan Ualikhanov and others. Do you know…? Before talking on travelers. Let’s try to guess the names of travelers. Yes, this is Chokan Ualikhanov, the next one is James Cook  and third is Christopher Columbus                        Interesting information                            Before reading the information about famous travellers practice the pronunciation of geographical names. Practice Relax	Read the text about Shoqan Ualikhanov, Christopher Columbus, James Cook.  Make a poster about the travellers.                           Interesting words Choose from the three words given below the word, which is best. Shoqan Ualikhanov

     Shoqan Ualikhanov was born in November in 1835. He was a Kazakh scientist ethnographer and a historian. Shoqan spent his childhood in his father’s traditional yurt. His father sent him to a small private school in 1842 when he was six. He moved to his grandmother’s home. He entered the military academy in Omsk in 1847. He read a lot of books in Russian. He travelled in Central Asia in the late 1850s. In 1856 he went to the region of Issyk Kul where he had his first successful expedition.

                                             Christopher Columbus

Christopher Columbus was born in Genoa, Italy in 1451. He began sailing on Italian ships at the age of 14. When Columbus was 25 he was sailing on a ship headed for England.

On August 2, 1492 the voyage began. On October 12 after 71 days at sea land was sighted.They claimed the island which they named San Salvador for Spain. Since Columbus believed he was in the Indies he called the natives Indians. Columbus had really landed on an island southeast of what is now Florida. In March 1493 Columbus sailed back to Spain with a few Indians.

Columbus sailed to America three more times in 1493, 1498, and 1502. He found San Salvador and then Cuba which he called Juana, but he found few riches on his voyages. He died a man of average wealth on May 20, 1506 in Spain.

James Cook

Captain James Cook (7 November 1728^{[NB 1]} – 14 February 1779) was a British explorer, navigator, cartographer, and captain in the Royal Navy. He achieved the first recorded European contact with the eastern coastline of Australia and the Hawaiian Islands, and the first recorded circumnavigation of New Zealand.

    Cook joined the British merchant navy as a teenager and joined the Royal Navy in 1755. In 1766 as commander of  Bark Endeavour for the first of three Pacific voyages.

Cook was killed in Hawaii in a fight with Hawaiians during his third exploratory voyage in the Pacific in 1779. He left a legacy of scientific and geographical knowledge which was to influence his successors well into the 20th century and numerous memorials worldwide have been dedicated to him.
