Topic: Animals (reading lesson)

Lesson Plan

Age group: 5-6 years

Objectives: students will be able to:

·         recognize and use animal vocabulary: pig, dog, rabbit, monkey, tiger, donkey, duck, goat, elephant;

·         recognize sounds: [e], [i], [o], [d], [g], [t].

·         pronounce sounds correctly;

·         read CVC words;

·         read phrases related to the topic.

Materials: phone or laptop, calendar, magic box, puppet, envelope, letter, baskets, flashcards, monster (made of box).

Lead-in & warm-up	7 min	Hello Song Students and the teacher sing a hello song. Finger Play The teacher repeats a rhyme accompanying it with movements. Children repeat after the teacher. Weather Report The teacher asks questions about the weather, season of the year, month, day of the week. Magic Box Teacher holds the magic box and introduces a puppet (Frankie).	T: Hello everyone! It’s time for English! Let’s sing a hello song! T: Let’s warm up our fingers! T: What’s the weather like today? What season is it now? What month is it now? What day is it today? (What day was yesterday?/What day will be tomorrow?) T: What do we have in the box? Is it…? Yes! You are right!	Sing the song. Children recite the rhyme (app.1) Ss: It’s sunny/snowy/cloudy/windy/cold… It’s (winter). It’s (December). Today is (Monday). Yesterday was (Sunday). Tomorrow will be (Tuesday). Children repeat the rhyme: Magic box! Magic box! What’s inside the magic box? Open! Open! Children guess what object is inside.
Presentation (activity)	4 min	A postman comes and gives a letter to the puppet. The puppet opens the letter, but can’t read it.	T: Let’s help Frankie read the letter!	Students read the letter and follow its instructions (app. 2). Children find the animals.
Practice	9 min	Game time “Where do the animals live?” Children sort the animals into baskets with pictures of sounds on them. Exercise Game time The teacher asks students to close their eyes. The scary music sounds. Children open their eyes and see a monster (that is made of the box) instead of Frankie. The teacher says that Frankie is very hungry, that is why he looks like a monster. Students feed the monster. After that children close their eyes. The magic music sounds. Children open their eyes and see Frankie.	T: What is it? What sound do you hear at the beginning? T: Let’s do some exercise! T: What should we do?	Children say: [t] – tiger, [p] – pig, etc. Children copy movements and repeat the rhyme twice. Ss: Let’s feed the monster! Students feed the monster with cards with CVC words on them. So, they read and feed the monster App. 4
Production	3 min	Game time “Chinese whispers”. The teacher or a child whispers a word to the ear of the second child, etc…	T: Let’s play Chinese whispers!
Warm-down		The teacher takes Frankie and has him say goodbye to kids and encourages children to say goodbye back.	T: It’s time to say goodbye to Frankie! Hug Frankie! Shake hands! Give Frankie a kiss!	Ss: Goodbye!
