План урока английского языка
по теме «The Components of the Automobile»

Цель: применение освоенной профессиональной лексики в речи и при работе с техническими текстами.

Задачи:

1) Образовательная – совершенствование речевых компетенций, развитие навыков чтения, аудирования и письма. Совершенствование навыков самостоятельной работы.

2) Развивающая – расширение вокабуляра, необходимого для логического изложения содержания технических текстов, развитие умения вести беседу по заданной ситуации, умения работать в группе.

3) Воспитательная – воспитание культуры общения и потребности в практическом использовании языка.

4) Практическая – ознакомление с новыми лексическими единицами и первичное их закрепление в речи учащихся. Закрепление языковых навыков по теме, активизация навыков орфографии. Совершенствование навыков поиска заданной информации в тексте через активизацию навыков чтения.

Task 3. Read and translate the following text.

Components of the Automobile

The automobile is made up of three basic parts: the power plant, or the engine, the chassis and the body.

The engine is the source of power that makes the wheels rotate and the car move. It includes fuel, cooling, lubricating and electric systems. Most automobile engines have six or eight cylinders.

The chassis includes a power train (power transmission), a running gear, steering and braking systems as well.

The power train carries the power from the engine to the car wheels.

The power transmission, in turn, contains the clutch, gearbox, propeller or cardan shaft, final drive, differential, rear axle and axle shafts. The running gear consists of a frame with axles, wheels and springs.

The body has a hood, fenders and accessories: the heater, stereo tape recorder, windshield wipers, conditioner, speedometer and so on.

3.2. Read the presentation by a car manufacturer and put them in the right order.

The average car is made of a large number of different materials,  as the pie chart here shows. Steel makes up by far the single largest percentage  of  materials,  accounting  for  55%  of  the  car  materials  by  weight. Then comes iron, with 13%. Plastics make up 10% of the car, although  this  percentage  is  naturally  increasing  all  the  time  as  car makers try to make vehicles lighter. Aluminium accounts for 5% of the materials, although some cars contain much more. Some manufacturers are switching from steel to  aluminium  to  save  weight,  because  aliminium’s  so  light.  And  new  alloys  mean  that  aluminium  is  now  about  as  rigid  as  steel.  Another advantage is that it’s corrosion-resistant. It’s going to be interesting to  see if the popularity of aluminium continues to increase in the future. Returning  to my chart,  you  see  that rubber  accounts  for 5% of  the  weight,  and  fluids  and  lubricants  make  up  4%.  Zink,  lead,  and  copper  together accounts  for  3%,  and  glass  makes  up  2%.  All  the  other  materials,  including  things  like  fabrics  and  ceramics,  make  up  the final 3% together.
