The theme of the lesson: “The environmental protection”

 

The aim: To generalize the knowledge of Ss on topic: “Environment”

The objectives:

1. To activate the vocabulary on the theme.

 By the end of the lesson Ss will be able to give tips how to protect the environment.

2. To train and improve dialogical and monological speech.

3. To encourage Ss to take care of the nature.

Materials and equipment: Presentation Power Point, CD, Smart board

Hand outs for Ss: Cards four group and individual work.

I.  Introduction.

 Pupils:  Merry bell  has gathered us in this light and cosy class

We are standing, we are listening, we enjoy much learning English

Teacher:   Good morning, everyone!

Pupils:  Good morning, N.M!

Teacher:   Take your seats. How are you getting on?

          Pupils: We are fine and how are you?   

Teacher:  I’m all right too. Is everybody here? Let’s remember the rules of our lesson.

Pupils: S1- The first rule is to speak English.

S2- The second rule is to listen to the teacher and to each other.

S3- The third rule is to be active and attentive.

Teacher:  Right you are. I want you to keep the rules.

Well, look at the screen, (slide1) choose a picture according to your mood and note it on the leaf in front of you.

 Attention to the screen again! (slide 3) S1 read the rhyme, please. S2 translate the rhyme, please. Do you agree with the author? Why? (Ss express their opinions). What are we speaking about?

Teacher: Yes, you are right. Today we’ll discuss the problem of environmental protection. You know that people all over the world are worried about our environment. And we shall find out who is in Charge of Our Planet.

 

II  The phonetic drill (slide 4)

III Warm up.

1. Who is in charge of the Planet? 

1. What can people recycle, reuse, reduce?

2. What are global environmental problems?

3. How do people influence the environment?

4. What can children do to help the Earth?

5. Why do we have to protect nature?

6. How can we protect nature?

 

V. Reading Read and say what the story is about (slide 9).

 Once there was a wise old man. He could answer any question in the world. Everybody knew about it. One day the boys said, ”We’re going to fool that old man. We’ll catch a bird, go to the old man and say,” We are holding something in our hands. Is it alive or is it dead? If he says, ”Dead”, we’ll let the bird fly, and if he says, “Alive”, we’ll kill it” They caught a bird and they carried it to the old man and they said, ,” We are holding something in our hands. Is it alive or is it dead?” And the wise old man looked at the young people and smiled. ”It is in your hands”, he said.

(Ss say their opinions)

 

 

 

 

VI. Rest time.  Teacher: Stand up, please. Stand up and look around

 Shake your head and turn around

 Stamp your feet upon the ground

 Clap your hands and than sit down.

 

VII. Listening T: Listen to the tape, please!

Text: “A Dolphin Asks For Help”

A ship was fishing near the Kuril Islands when the men saw a dolphin in the water. It was swimming towards their ship. The dolphin’s movements were strange. When it was nearer the men could see that there was an open wound on the dolphin’s body. It tried to jump on the ship, but it couldn’t. The fishermen took the dolphin on the ship. The ship’s doctor said that this animal needed operation. During the operation, which lasted for an hour and a half, the men threw sea water over the dolphin. When the doctor had finished the operation, the men let the dolphin go back into the water. There were a lot of dolphins near the ship and they greeted it and swam round it as if they wanted to help it and to protect it.Then they all swam near the ship for a long time. This was the way they thanked the ship’s doctor and the fishermen for the help they had given to one of them

VIII. Project Work (Speaking)

Now you will work in groups and make two projects. The groups will present the rules on keeping our environment clean. The first group will start their rules with the words “We must”, the second group will present their rules starting with the words “We mustn’t.” Then every group will design a poster   telling about ecological problems and describe it.

Students of the first group speak:

  • We must keep the country tidy.
  • We must respect the life and work of the country-side.
  • We must keep the dogs under control.
  • We must take litter home.
  • We must water flowers and trees.
  • We must grow flowers and trees.
  • When we hike, we must leave the place clean.

 

Students of the second group speak:

  • We mustn’t break trees.
  • We mustn’t pick flowers in the forest or in the field.
  • We mustn’t do any harm to animals.
  • We mustn’t catch birds.
  • We mustn’t throw waste paper and things into rivers, lakes or on the ground.
  • We can reduce energy and water, we can reuse glass bottles and plastic containers, we can recycle newspapers, cardboard, cans and tins, paper, plastic containers and glass bottles.

X.  Homework.   Your homework is:1)  create your own poster or slogan we have spoken about today and  explain your choice, 2)  ) write a paragraph on topic: “It’s in our hand”

Xi. Feed back. Now fill in the table “My achievement” and evaluate your work.

Look at the screen and choose a picture according to your mood. (slide8)  Look at the blackboard. You can see a tree ”Let’s protect the environment” Write down a suggestion on the leaf and stick it on the tree. The lesson is over. Thank you for your work.
