«What is Earth Day?»

Материалы:

Цели: Формирование коммуникативной, социальной компетенции на уроке английского языка.

Задачи урока:

Образовательная:

·                       активизировать и совершенствовать актуальный словарный запас обучающихся, формировать у студентов операционные умения решения проблемных задач;

Воспитательная:

·                       воспитывать ответственное и бережное отношение к природе, воспитывать экологическую культуру и развивать экологическое мышление;

Развивающая:

·                       развивать навыки сотрудничества и коммуникации, организации эффективной работы в группах по решению проблемных ситуаций.

Разделение обучающихся на команды

Teacher: Today we sum up the results of our classes on ecology. Let's remember the types of pollution. Задание: Look and name all kinds of Environmental Problems.

Earth Day brings attention to a large number of issues in requirement of attention, such as pollution of the ocean, climate change, overpopulation, nuclear pollution, the depletion of the ozone layer and of the Earth’s natural resources, the introduction of wastes and toxicants, the deforestation of rain forests.

risen greatly. One of the most dangerous problems for our planet is global warming. It happens because we burn too much petrol resources, such as oil and coal, and the Earth heats up. This process can cause melting of the polar ice and the sea level rising in the future. If the climate changes there will be floods, heavy storms or severe droughts in different areas of the world.                                                                                                                   5 слайд There are different types of pollution. This process not only produces harmful effects on the atmosphere, but influences man’s health as well. Life is impossible without clean water. Water pollution is also dangerous because it ruins not only the water bodies, but also fish and animals around it. In the place of an oil spill there is a thin membrane that doesn’t allow water to breathe and kills birds and other animals. There is no way to have them assimilated in the soil, the water or the air in the initial form.                                                                                                                                                     13 слайд  There is a solution for these problems: Reprocessing is the only solution we have. A responsible management of the nuclear waste would limit the risk of nuclear pollution on the long term, allowing us to live on a cleaner and safer planet.                                                                                                                                    

14 слайд  We should be proud to live on our wonderful planet and understand that the consequences of pollution might be terrible and affect us and our children later. We should start recycling things made of glass, paper, plastic and aluminium. We should stop smoking and plant as many trees as we can because they can give us more oxygen. We need to drive less and use public transport in order to reduce fuel burning. We are responsible for the situation.

·         Air pollution, introduced by chemicals or other harmful materials emitted into the Earth’s atmosphere. This type of pollution causes human illnesses and damages living organisms.

·         Water pollution, introduced by water bodies’ contamination. Oceans, seas, rivers and lakes are full of pollutants which kill whole biological communities. This kind of environmental pollution is linked with to health issues in the life of humans, animals and plants. Most problems are caused by raw sewage running into stream waters, industrial waste, radiation spills, illegal dumping of chemical substances, etc.

·         Soil pollution, introduced by the presence of human-made chemicals in natural soil. This contamination is mainly caused by industrial and agricultural activity. Land pollution can be well caused by acid rains, deforestation, nuclear wastes or accidental spills.

·         Radioactive pollution, introduced by undesired presence of radioactive substances in liquids, gases, human body, solids or on surfaces. Such contamination is a real hazard, as it affects people, animals, and plants. It results from 20th century activities connected with nuclear weapon testing.

·         Noise pollution, introduced by excessive noise, which harms the balance of human life. Today there are so many different machines and motor vehicles that outdoor noise becomes simply unbearable and dangerous for health. Noise pollution can cause a rise in blood pressure, an increase in stress and even permanent hearing loss.

·         Visual pollution, introduced by an aesthetic issue, which brings negative changes to the environment. Examples of visual pollution include too many billboards, tall skyscrapers blocking the scenery, graffiti or tree carvings, space debris, etc.

·         Light pollution, introduced by excessive artificial light. Street lamps or simply unnecessary lights around the houses can cause light pollution, as they use more energy than needed. It affects human health and sleep cycle.

·         Thermal pollution, introduced by degradation of water quality and the increase of its temperature caused by human activity. For example, lakes warm up because of nearby manufacturing. This kind of contamination can seriously damage aquatic life.

Among the most urgent ones are the ozone layer, acid rains, global warming, toxic pollution of atmosphere, disappearance of forests, contamination of underground waters by chemical elements, destruction of soil in some areas, and threat to some flora and fauna representatives.

   The Earth is a home to millions of different kinds of living things, which make up the complex world of nature. Nowadays people try to change their habitats to suit their own needs – to create farmlands or build cities. They create pollution and destroy wildlife habitats by digging the ground up for mining, or by building roads through them. A quarter of all the plants in the world are known to be in a danger or threatened with extinction. There are different types of pollution: water pollution, air pollution, ground pollution and nuclear pollution.

   Acid rain falls when poisonous gases from power stations and vehicle exhausts mix with oxygen and moisture in the air. These gases become part of the water cycle and may be carried a long way by the wind before they fall as acid rain, which kills wildlife in lakes, rivers, and forests, and damages the surrounding plant life.

   World temperatures are currently rising every year. This so called global warming is caused by the building of gases and water vapour in the atmosphere. These gases form a layer that reflects the heat back to Earth. As the planet warms up, the polar ice caps will start to melt. This so called global warming is caused by the building of gases and water vapour in the atmosphere.

Ecological problems have no borders. However, environment disasters can be avoided if people broaden ecological education and every person understands that the beauty of nature is extremely fragile. Governments must take serious actions against pollution.

Экологические проблемы причиняют огромный вред окружающей среде. Среди самых актуальных – озоновый слой, кислотные дожди, глобальное потепление, токсическое загрязнение атмосферы, исчезновение лесов, загрязнение подземных вод химикатами, разрушение почвы в некоторых областях и угроза представителям флоры и фауны.

Земля является домом для миллиона живых существ, которые составляют сложный мир природы. В наши дни люди пытаются изменить их среду обитания, чтобы удовлетворить свои потребности – создавать сельскохозяйственные угодья или строить города. Они загрязняют и разрушают среду обитания дикой природы, копая землю для угледобычи или строя дороги. Известно, что четверть всех растений находится под угрозой исчезновения. Существуют различные виды загрязнения: водное, воздушное, загрязнение земли и радиоактивное.

Кислотный дождь выпадает, когда ядовитые газы от атомных станций и автомобильных выхлопов смешиваются с кислородом и влагой в воздухе. Эти газы становятся частью водного цикла, и могут долгое время разноситься ветром, пока не выпадут кислотным дождем, который убивает жизнь в озерах, реках и лесах и разрушает жизнь растений.

Мировые температуры повышаются каждый год. Это так называемое глобальное потепление вызвано скоплением газов и испарением воды в атмосфере. Эти газы образуют слой, который отражает тепло назад на землю. Так как планета нагревается, полярные льды начнут таять. Это может вызвать повышение уровня моря, и многие среды обитания исчезнут под водой.

Экологические проблемы не имеют границ. Однако, катастроф окружающей среды можно избежать, если  люди будут расширять свои экологические знания, и каждый будет понимать, что красота природы очень хрупкая. Правительства должны принимать серьезные меры по борьбе с загрязнением окружающей среды.

2-We all worry about the state of environment. The ecological problems must be solved without delay but this requires much investment of money and human resources.

Nowadays a lot of people lead an unnatural way of life. They lose connection with nature. Those simple things of life like sunshine and fresh air become premium. Tall buildings block out the sun. Traffic fumes pollute the atmosphere.

My town has all similar problems. 

3-Let’s look at these photos!

I would like to tell you about the main ecological problems in our life. They are: littering, air pollution, water pollution and others.

4-People destroy forests, pollute air and water. They don't think about their future and about future of our planet. 
5-We just destroy our nature. It is very bad and we mustn't do it. We must care of our beautiful nature. 

6-We must begin from our houses, streets and towns and do them clean.  A lot of people in our district have their own cars. The car exhaust fumes mix with air and we have to inspire this harmful mixture.

7-Environmental protection is of a universal concern. That is why serious measures to create a system of ecological security should be taken. We must save our planet!
