  Некоторые слова русского языка пришли к нам из других языков, в том числе и из английского. При этом они сохранили то же звучание и значение, что и в языке оригинала. Эти слова будут вам добрыми друзьями, если вы сумеете обратить внимание на их сходство с аналогичными словами в русском языке.
  
  Догадайтесь о значении подчеркнутых слов.

  В любом языке есть слова, которые
  представляют трудность для перевода.
  Это слова, обозначающие предметы
  или понятия, присущие одной
  определенной стране. Например: в
  русском языке — слово пельмени. В
  Англии таких блюд нет, поэтому
  перевести это слово можно только путем его
  описания: мясо в тесте. Как правило, слова,
  обозначающие понятия, характерные для
  определенной культуры, не переводятся, а
  просто заимствуются. Так в языках всего
  Мира появились слова: самовар, спутник,
  борщ, пришедшие из русского языка.

  Hooligan - хулиган.
  Слово произошло от английской
  фамилии Hooley. В 1890—1900
  годах в городе Ислингтон человек
  по фамилии Hooley был главарем
  уличной банды. Из-за этой
  фамилии полиция называла
  членов банды Hooley хулиганами
