  The Tower of London is a
  historic castle on the north
  bank of the River Thames
  in central London. It is one
  of the oldest buildings
  in the city. The Tower is a visible symbol of the Norman conquest of England. It was built by William the Conqueror in 1066 as a fortress to protect the city.
  Today it is considered the most valuable monument of medieval military architecture preserved in England.
