  HISTORY of the UNIVERSITY
  South Ural State University was founded in1943.
  The first name of the university was Chelyabinsk Mechanical Engineering Institute. In December 1943, an associate professor Petr Alekseevich was appointed acting director of the ChMMI, Ph.D. Grishin. The day of the signing of the order number 1 - December 15, 1943 - is celebrated at SUSU as the birthday of the university. At the moment of organization there were only two faculties in the institute — mechanics and technology and tank, which in 1944 was renamed the faculty of wheeled-tracked vehicles. The faculties included 24 departments. The first graduation was in 1943, the number of students was 400.

  Chelyabinsk Polytechnic Institute - since 1951
  On April 26, 1949, Decree of the Council of Ministers of the USSR No. 1671 was issued to organize in 1951 Chelyabinsk Polytechnic Institute on the base of Chelyabinsk Mechanical Engineering Institute. To the two already existing faculties, new ones are added: energy, metallurgy, engineering and construction, mechanical and instrument-making. From the very beginning of the university’s existence, scientific schools and laboratories were formed to solve defense (in wartime) and then national economic tasks. In 1968, the institute was named after the Lenin Komsomol. In 1989, the institute consisted of 8 faculties.

  In 1990, Chelyabinsk Polytechnic Institute was renamed. Its name was Chelyabinsk State Technical University. At this time, the university began to develop humanities faculties and departments. In 1997 the university got its present name South Ural State University. And it became classic instead of technical one. In April 2010, SUSU becomes one of 15 Russian universities that receive the status of “National Research University”. In 2015, the university became one of the universities - participants of the Project 5-100. The goal of the project is to strengthen the competitive position of a group of leading Russian universities in the global educational market

  South Ural State University is a university with an interesting history and diverse traditions. It is a multidisciplinary educational university, which is famous for its scientific achievements, high level of training of specialists, fundamental scientific base and material and technical security for the implementation of scientific research and educational process
  PRESENT MOMENT
  172 undergraduate programs, 126 graduate programs, 25 specialty programs and 24 areas of graduate students are being implemented at South Ural State University.
  The production of modern teaching aids was organized in the SUSU. These are more than 4,000 items of educational and production stands, computer simulators, information tools of various types and modifications in the areas of professional training of the university.
  Modern forms of distance learning such as e-learning and b-learning, as well as mass distance learning courses in the MOOC format are developed in SUSU.

  University structure
  In connection with the entry of the South Ural State University into the program of improving competitiveness 5-100, a number of global changes are taking place in the structure of the university. During 2016, the existing educational units were enlarged and transformed into 10 new schools and institutes. The main goal of the transformation is the rejection of duplicate specialties and the concentration of knowledge within key divisions.

  The Institute of Open and Distance Education was organized in 2004 on the basis of the Center for Distance Education. The Director of the Institute is Alexander Alekseevich Demin

  IODE is an actively developing structure of SUSU, designed to shape the information and educational environment of the university and integrate distance technologies into the activities of all departments of the university.
  On the basis of the institute, bachelors and masters in higher education are trained, and additional education programs are being implemented (advanced training and retraining).
  Since 2008, IODE has been using the electronic educational environment “Electronic SUSU” for the implementation of educational programs, courses and individual disciplines.
