it? What are they? What colour is the national flag? What is the official
language of the country? What is the capital of the UK? How many parts are

«Where and Why People Travel»
These days people travel a lot. They travel at home and abroad. They want
to see new places and to meet new people. Sometimes they travel on business,
but often they go to places on holidays. In summer a lot of people like to go
to the sea or stay at the lake or near the river. There they can enjoy
swimming, boating and fishing and stay in the sun. In winter people sometimes
go to the mountains to ski. It is always nice to be in the forest. Forests,
lakes, seas and mountains are very beautiful places. People often make pictures
of the places they visit and show them to their friends. When people go abroad
they usually visit interesting places, castles, old towns and
museums. People
travel by plane, by train, by car or by sea. Travelling can be very pleasant or
not very pleasant but it is usually interesting.

1. Hello, ladies

the world. About seven million people live here. London is more than two

the Houses of Parliament, Trafalgar Square and St. Paul’s Cathedral.
2. Trafalgar
Square is a geographical centre of London. It is the largest square in London.
There is a monument to Admiral Nelson and the National Gallery. The Gallery has

became the first public garden. It is known for its Speaker’s Corner, where
everyone can stand up and say what he wants.

Работа по прочитанному тексту. Чтение с извлечением нужной

You know that nowadays a lot of Russian
students go abroad in summer. Our friends Yura and his sister Lena were in
London last summer. At home your task was to read and translate the page from
Yura’s diary. Open your books and find Ex.6 p.55.
Find the following information in
the text and say:
-
what places of interest he visited;
-
how he describes Big Ben;
-
what streets he writes about;
-
what he saw in Trafalgar Square;
-
what he bought for his family;
-
what they are going to visit.

- Excuse me. Can you help me,
please?
- Yes? What can I do for you?
- How can I get to Madam Tussaud’s Museum?
- Walk straight on and turn left near the
bank.
- Is it far from here?
- Not very far. You can’t miss it!
- Thank you very much.
- You are welcome!
(видеофильм о музее)
After watching this film answer my
question: “ What familiar celebrities were there in the film?’
Madam Tussaud’s Museum is very popular all over the world.
There are wax models of famous people, both living and dead, from every walk of
life (actors, musitions, politicians, sportsmen, public figures, pop stars).
There is no other place where you can see all the celebrities (famous people)
at once. The wax figures are standing and sitting, and sometimes even moving
and talking. Such figures are controlled by the computers. And they are
especially popular with the visitors. There are several Halls at the Museum.
There is a special place for the Royal Family. You can see Prince Charls, Queen
Elizabeth II and her husband Prince
Philip.
New models are being produced all the time. It costs about 40,000 dollars to
make a wax figure. This museum is the most talked about wax museum in the
world.
Подведение итогов.
