  Agriculture is widely developed. It is presented by such branches as plant-growing (potatoes, grains, flax), cattle-breeding (cows, sheep, pigs)

  Birthday. Our region was founded on the 13th of August in 1944.

  Chestnaykov Efim (1874-1961), a talented Russian artist, was born not far from Kologriv. His works are known both in Russia and abroad. The most famous of them is «The generous apple». He also wrote fairy-tales, made sculptures and musical instruments.

  Kostroma is the main city of our region. It was founded by Yuri Dolgoruky in 1152. The population of it is 271,000 people. There are a lot of sights here: old churches, cathedrals, historical monuments and museums. There is also a drama theatre.

  Ostrovsky A. N. (1823-1886) is one of the greatest Russian dramatists. His life was closely connected with Schelycovo not far from Kostroma. The drama theatre in Kostroma was named after him.

  Tarkovsky A. (1932-1986) a great Russian producer who was born in our region not far from Kady. Their films were awarded with popular international prizes. In his native house there is a museum now.
