Worky
Once
upon a time there lived a rabbit. He was very clever and smart. He built a
house and planted carrots and cabbage for his family. His wife was very
hard-working and kind. She looked after their children very carefully and
didn’t have time for herself. One day the rabbit went to his friend hedgehog.
They arranged to meet because they had a lot of problems to discuss. The winter
was going to be very cold and they both were afraid that their gardens would
freeze and next summer there wouldn’t be any crops. Some other animals were
worried by this weather forecast too and came to the meeting: a big cow, that
lived nearby, a humble sheep from another wood and a big goose, who didn’t have
his own garden but helped in rabbit’s garden when it was needed.
“What
should we do, dearest friends,” – said the rabbit – “we have to build a
warm-house for our crops or next year we will starve to death!”
“I
have an idea, Master Rabbit!” – said the goose. “We can move to a warmer place.
Last night I heard two hens talking. They were speaking about a wonderful
country where there are no frosts, the sun is always shining and all trees are
always green.”
“But
where is this country, Goosy? I’m ready to go tomorrow!” – asked the rabbit.
“I
don’t know but we can follow the sun and finally we will find this country. I
think that all warm countries are near the sun!” – said the goose.
“Well,
well, well,” – interrupted the hedgehog. “Everybody knows that the sun rises in
the east and goes down in the west. Where should we go?”
But
hedgehog spoke very slowly, about a word in 30 seconds, and the goose was very
impatient – by the time the hedgehog finished his speech the goose was already
going towards the sun. The sheep wanted to rush and bring him back but the
rabbit stopped her saying: “Don’t worry. Soon he will come back. When the sun
returns.”
The
big old cow who was chewing grass noted: “Why don’t you eat grass as me? I
don’t have to plant it, it grows itself.”
“No”,
– said the rabbit. “I can’t eat only grass and my children neither. I have a
big family and everybody is used to have three meals a day – one cabbage for
breakfast, two carrots for dinner and some corn for supper. If I give them
grass they will be skinny and unhealthy.”
So
they kept on talking and talking and still had no idea what to do.
Late
in the evening the rabbit looked at his watch and suddenly remembered that his
wife asked him to come earlier. He rushed quickly home and there in the yard he
saw a big warm-house. He wondered how it happened to be there and his children
told him that they played with glass and wood like in a constructor and step by
step the warm-house was ready.
