Цели и задачи:

Практическая: развитие речевой компетенции: развивать навыки аудирования с выборочным извлечением заданной информации, практиковать навыки поискового чтения на основе текста о библиотеках Лондона, тренировать навыки диалогической речи по теме урока

 

 

формирование языковой компетенции: развиватьнавыки употребления лексических единиц по теме урока

                                                              

 Развивающая: развивать кругозор учащихся, развивать механизм языковой догадки, развивать способности логического изложения мысли, развивать память, мышление, догадку

 

Воспитательная: воспитывать соблюдения правил поведения в библиотеке, любовь к чтению

Оборудование: ксерокопии текста, диск с записью текста по аудированию

                                               Ход урока

I Организационный момент:

1.       Приветствие

Teacher: How are you today? How do you feel? Give your reasons.

Pupil 1: 1 feel happy. The weather is fine today. And you?

      Pupil 2: 1 am fine. I'm with my friend. And you?

Pupil 3: 1 feel energetic.

     Teacher: I'm proud of you. I'm happy that I have such good students and I'm sure our lesson will be successful and our work will be productive.

3.       .Введение в англоязычную атмосферу.

: Now read the riddles and guess the theme of our lesson.

The field is white,

Black is the seed,

The man who sows it,

Is clever indeed.

 

We have friends.  They cannot walk, and cannot see,

But they are very good for you and me.

With these friends we sail on ships, and ride on trains

And even fly in airplanes.

These friends show us towns, seas, and lands.

Can you guess who these good friends are?

Pupil: These friends are books.

Teacher: Right you are. A book is a main source of knowledge. It is impossible to imagine our life without books. They play an important role in educating, upbringing and help us to get useful information. Where can we get books?

4.     Pupil 1: In the bookstores.

5.     Pupil 2: At the markets.

6.     Pupil 3: In the libraries.

7.     Teacher: So the theme of our lesson is "At the school library". At the lesson we are going to revise the words learned earlier, to improve your reading, listening and speaking skills.

         Do you like reading books? What kind of books do you read most often?

         Who is your  favourite writer?

         Have you got many books at home? Have you read all of them? What is the most useful book in your home library?

         What books should be kept in every home?

         Do you ever borrow books from the libraries? What libraries are they? What kinds of books do you usually take?

 • Do you know what an e-book is? What is an audiobook? Do you think people will read paper books in the future? Will there be libraries in the future?

2.     Аудирование

Pre-listening

Teacher: How often do you borrow books from our school library? Do you know what main sections in the library are?

Can you explain the meaning of the words: a catalogue, a reading hall,                     a reference section, a periodical section, fiction literature, поn-fiction literature?

While-listening.

Listen to the dialogue and say if the following statements are true or false.

-   Hi, Boris! Can you help me?

-   Sure. What is it?

-I need to write a report for our History lesson. I know you are interested in history. Can you advise me where to find some material for the report?

-   Have you tried our school library? They have a good collection of books on different subjects. Just search for what you need in the catalogue.

-   I'm sorry but I rarely go to the library and I don't know where the catalogue is and how to use it.

-   Don't worry. Our librarians are very helpful. Just ask them and they will help you find anything you need. By the way, the reading hall has a good reference section, too. I often use it. It's not big, but there are very good encyclopedias, atlases and dictionaries there.

-   Is there anything else I can use?

-   Well, I guess periodicals - newspapers and magazines. This section is at the far end of the reading hall.

-    Thanks a lot, Boris. I will go to the library right away.

-   OK. I was glad to help you.

Are the statements true or false?

        There are lots of books on different subjects in the school library.

        One can search for the necessary books in the catalogue.

        Boris rarely goes to the library and doesn't know how to use the catalogue.

        There is no reading hall in the school library.

        The library reference section is huge.

        There are encyclopedias, atlases and dictionaries in the library reference section.

        The periodical section has various magazines and newspapers.

Teacher: Imagine you are in the library now. You are librarians and readers. Do your tasks.

Group 1.

Match the phrases to get a conversation at the library and then act out the dialogue.

 

1. Hello! We've just moved into this district and I'd like to borrow books from your library.

a. Please fill in this form. Write your name and address.

 

2. No, not yet.

b. ten days. If you need some books for a longer period you can renew them.

You can do it to by telephone. You needn't specially come to the library for that.

 

3. How many books can I borrow at a time?

4. How long can I keep the book?

d. Good. Have you got a library card?

5. Thank you. Do you have any books on the American Civil War? I am interested in that period of American history.

e. Look through the catalogues. Our library is rich and Г sure you'll find the books you need.

6. Thank you.

 

Group 2.

Put the books on the right shelves in alphabetical order. Make an alphabetical list  of titles for each shelf: Non-fiction, Fiction, Reference.

The History of Art, Flowers of Great Britain, Short Stories, J.K.Rowling Harry Porter, Money, Oxford Student's Dictionary of Current English, Children's Pictorial Dictionary, P.L. Travers Marry Poppins, A History of Britain, Phrasal Verbs,  Encyclopedia, Mars as We Know It, Journey through Africa, Maps of the World, Lewis Carroll Alice in Wonderland, Picasso's Life, Charles Dickens Oliver Twist, Ancient Greece, World Atlas, Dictionary of Synonyms.

Group 3.

Think of and write some Library Rules for our school library.

        Don't make noise in the library. Speak quietly.

        Don't write anything on the pages with a pen or a pencil.

        Don't tear the pages.

        Don't lose the books - it means that you lose your friends.

        Return the books in time.

Do you like reading? Make up your own dialogues in pairs.

Pupil 1: Do you like reading?

Pupil 2: Of course, I do.

Pupil 1: What kind of books do you like?

Pupil 2: I like reading historical novels because I am interested in history and books help me to learn more about historical events and famous people. And what books do you prefer?

Pupil 1: I like reading poetry. I am fond of poetry and want to write good poems myself.

7.Развитие навыков поискового чтения

Teacher :read the text. Some words are omitted in the text. Try to guess them.

Then you’ll do some tasks.

                                    The Libraries In London.

London is one of the most literary-minded      ----------(cities) in the world. It would be hard  to think of the subject which has  not   ---------- (got) a library devoted to it.

            Let’s    ------ (start) with the highest library in London, the Capitular Library of St. Paul’s Cathedral. To reach it,  you must be prepared for a long climb, for it is                      situated right up near the Whispering Gallery.

            The origin of the library    --------- (dates) back to the seventh century, but all its books, with the exception of some books printed before 1500 and six manuscripts, were destroyed in the great Fire of London in 1666. The achieves, however, were preserved. The library was   ------- (refunded) after the Fire and the collection was build up again by gift and purchase during the 17th and 18th centuries.

            From the highest   --------( library) in London to the biggest- which, of course, is that of the British Museum. The  British museum  --------- (library) contains about six million books and the large circular Reading Room is in the centre of the Museum building. In the  --------- (Reading) Room is a reference section of 30 000 volumes on open shelves and also the catalogue for the whole library.
