T: Good afternoon,
participants of our event, lovers and connoisseurs of the language. I am glad
to meet you. Today you will have the opportunity to show your knowledge, logic,
ingenuity and find answers to tricky questions.
Now you will
be divided into 2 teams and we will begin our journey into the world of
interesting and not quite ordinary English. You need to write down the answers
to the tasks on the sheets in front of you and hand them over after the signal.
The team which earns the most points , will win the prize. Let’s begin!
Now have a look at the board.
(Включается презентация с видами той или иной англоговорящей страны) It’s…
(обучающиеся должны угадать столицу)
(презентация №1 «Name the capitals» слайды 1-7)
T: That’s great! Now
let’s do an interactive task. Dear participants of
the event, you need to answer 5 quiz questions about the nuances of British
life. You get one point for each correct answer. Good luck.
There is a
laptop on the table in front of each team. The team will do the following tasks
on it. You have 3 minutes for each interactive task. Let’s begin.

T: Well, it was very
interesting! Thank you, my dear friends!
Now let’ speak about
idioms. An idiom is a phrase or expression that
usually represents a figurative, non-literal meaning attached to a phrase; but
some phrases become figurative idioms while retaining the literal meaning of
the phrase. Categorized as a formal language, the figurative meaning of the
idiom differs from the literal meaning. Idioms are common in all languages;
there are about twenty-five thousand idiomatic expressions in English alone. Your
next task is to find a suitable idiom for the proposed «Harry Potter» flm’s
characters. Think and connect the pairs.

T: Dear friends, it's time to talk about proverbs. A proverb is an
utterance in the form of a grammatically complete sentence, in which folk
wisdom is expressed in an instructive form. It can have a narrative or
motivational character. Your next task is to find a suitable translation of the
proverb. Think and connect the pairs.

T: Dear friends, word formation is a branch of the science of language, in
which it is studied from what and with what words are formed. Word formation in
English is an important part of English grammar, which considers the
morphological structure of a word. The fact is that from one English word you
can form others. Accordingly, knowing the meaning of the original
"root", it is easy to understand the same-root words of other parts
of speech. In
English, the most common way of word formation is affixation, that is,
attaching affixes to roots or bases. Now let’s check our knowledge. I offer you a task in which you need to choose the right variant
of the word formation.

T: Perfect! Now
I want to offer you an interesting task about modal verbs. As you know modal
verb is a type of verb that is used to denote modality, that is: probability,
ability, permission, request, ability, suggestions, order, commitment or
advice. Modal verbs always accompany the basic (infinitive) form of another
verb with semantic content. In English, the modal verbs can, could, must,
should, had better, have to and sometimes need or dare are commonly used. In the next quiz, you need to choose the right modal verb in the
meaning.

T.: My friends, do you like to travel? Let's choose a favorite
type of travelling for ourselves Okay? You
need to pair words with pictures showing types of travelling. Good luck.

T: Who wants to visit
Britain? The British love to talk about the weather.
Therefore, finally I offer you a quiz about the phenomena of nature. I hope in
the future these words will help you to keep up a conversation about the
weather with any British.
