Today we will continue
speaking about Mass Media. You know that Mass Media play an important part in
our lives. We’ve already read the text about many useful functions of Mass
Media. However, some people believe that not all things in Mass Media are
good and useful, there are some negative sides in Mass Media.
So, who can tell me what the
topic of our lesson is?
What must we know to speak
on this topic?
What must we do?
Yes, you are right. Today we
will make up small presentations about different kinds of MM and you will
discuss some negative sides of MM. Besides, we will learn some information about
MM in a British family.

about kinds of Mass Media. Write in short on the sheets of paper all facts
about positive sides of MM. Discuss in groups and write about some negative
aspects of MM. Decide yourselves who will speak from your group. Help with
the ideas. The first group will speak about TV, the second – about newspapers
and magazines, the third – about the Internet.

Newspapers and magazines
play an important part in our lives. There are many advantages of the
newspapers and magazines. Firstly, we can get information about the latest
news from the newspapers. We can read articles about political events, sport
events, events in our country and other countries. Also, newspapers give us
extra details and background information about events. Moreover, there is
information about famous people. Besides, there are many “afterfunctions” of
newspapers: after reading a newspaper we can use it as a special “box” for
(wrapping) different things, for example, shoes. But newspapers have some
disadvantages. There is much waste paper after reading newspapers. The
information in the newspapers is often not true or half true. And newspapers
and magazines are not so fast as the Internet. Besides, there many
journalists intrude in people’s private lives, they follow celebrities, take
photos of them in their intimate moments and print scandals and gossip.
Moreover, newspapers and magazines print a lot of advertisements about
unnecessary things and there is often “18+ content” which can damage our
mind.
To sum up, we think that
newspapers and magazines are not a popular source of Mass Media nowadays
because people prefer the Internet or TV and may be, they will disappear in
the future.
