Good afternoon,
class. Tell me please. How are you? What date is it today? What is the
weather like today? Who is absent today? Thank you.
Your home task
was to give complete answers to the questions in exercise 51. Let’s check it.
Who would like to start?
Well done. Now
let’s check how well you remember the text “The reader of books” and new
words from this unit. Please look at your hand-outs. (Приложение 1) You are to
fill the missing words in the text. The words on the blackboard will help you
to make the right choice.
Good for you.
Well, we’ve read the text about tiny girl who adored reading books. I’m sure you
have some ideas about Matilda’s appearance, character and even other hobbies.
Please look at the blackboard. There are three pictures of different girls.
You are to decide which of them looks like Matilda. After that describe the
girl with the help of the table. (Приложение 2) All the necessary words are
given there, you’re just to choose the most proper ones.
Let’s describe
two other girls using the same table. Please use as many adjectives as
possible.
Great! Please
open your books on page 187 exercise 40. You are to change the underlined
parts of the sentence using your new vocabulary from exercise 35 and 36.
Thank you. Now
look at the black board. Let’s revise the following construction: it takes
somebody (time) to do smth. Please make up sentences with the help of this
table. Do it one by one.
Now you are to
make up your own sentences. Pictures on the slide will help you.
Well done. Now
ask your classmates how long certain activities took them. For example, - How long did it take you to do your homework?
- It takes me
an hour to do my homework.
Well done. Now
let’s check how well you remember the text. Look at exercise 50 letter A.
Please read the sentence out and say who said it.
Your home task
is to do exercise 51 on page 169.
Your marks for
today are …
Thank you!

Good afternoon,
teacher. I’m fine, thank you. Ivanov and Petrov are absent today.
1. From my point
of view, watching TV isn’t enough to become a well-informed and well-educated
person because television doesn’t teach you grammar and spelling.
2. I can’t say
what I feel about the children reading books written for grown-ups, it may be
good or it may be bad.
Matilda was a
very tiny, but clever young girl. She was something to make
everyone’s eyes pop. Matilda’s parents called her a noisy chatterbox
and her father refused to buy her any book. After that, Matilda went
to the library and got acquainted with a librarian, who watched
her with fascination because that little girl devoured one book
after another. When Matilda had read all the children’s books, she
asked Mrs Phelps for a book that gown-ups read. Mrs Phelps looked along the
shelves, taking her time. She didn’t know what to choose. At
first Mrs Phelps wanted to give Matilda a romance, but for some
reason she changed her mind. The librarian gave Matilda “Great
Expectations” by Charles dickens. Over the next afternoons Matilda sat reading
in big armchair with a book on her lap. She was totally absorbed
in the wonderful adventures and the spell of magic that the great
storyteller had created with his words. Every book impressed the
girl very much!
