A Weekend
I like
weekends because I can stay in bed late, and we always plan to do
something nice. We
usually go to a picnic if it’s summer and if the weather is
fine. In winter we
go skiing or mountain skiing, but only when there’s a lot of
snow and it is not
cold. There are plenty of slopes around our town, and on
a sunny day you
can see many people there, including young children. Skat-
ing is also an
option. I like skating, and Jane goes to a skating club. She has
started skating
when she was five years old, and she is passionate about this
sport. In summer
she roller-skates.
In autumn
and spring it often rains and there is not much to do out-
doors, so we have
several options: we stay indoors, or go to a shopping centre,
to the movies or
just window-shopping. From time to time we go to see our
friends. My mum
and dad go to the sports and leisure club at weekends. There
is a new sports
club in the centre of the town with a large swimming pool and
a gym. In fact, we
have a family membership in the club, but I don’t like go-
ing there on
Saturday or Sunday because there are too many people there at
weekends. So my
mum and dad have to get up early to get there while it’s not
busy there yet. I
go to the club to play tennis with friends.
It’s
Saturday, and I wake up at 9.30. My parents have already left. I
knock at my
sister’s door to ask is she wants any breakfast — it’s her turn to
cook breakfast
today. Jane is already up, but she’s still in her pyjamas, she is
online chatting
with somebody and laughing. She turns to me and says:
“Morning,
Mike. You know, I have invited some of my friends to our
place tonight, as
parents are leaving to see the Petrovs. I hope you don’t
mind! Otherwise
you can join mum and dad and go to see the Petrovs as
well!”
“Do mum and
dad know about your party?” I ask in surprise.
