Australia is rather dry continent. Most of the
territory is desert. There are hills and a lot of hills and dry lakes there.
Most of the territory is +35 degrees in summer. A lot of territory is empty. People
mostly live live in the South and East of the country. The summers (from
November to April) are warn and the winters (from May to October) are not too
cold.
In 1788 the British people came to Australia.
They saw local people there and gave them names “ aborigine”. There were about
300,000 Aborigines at that time. They belonged to different tribes and had its
land and language. They ate plants, caught fish and birds. They made houses
from branches and leaves. The aborigines believe that once upon a time animals
and plants and people lived together and made the world. They have many songs,
stories and legends about it.
The aborigine’s life changed greatly since 1788 when
the British came. Thousands of aborigines were destroyed by the British or died
from diseases. The British took a lot of their lands too.
