P1: Every season consists of three months and every month
is noted for different holidays, special occasions and anniversaries of
different events. We ‘ve come together today to talk only about one month/ Do
you want to know what its name?
We are going to talk about
the fourth month of the year, the second month of spring – April!
P2: Listen to some interesting facts about April!
No one really knows how
April, got it’s name. Some people think April was named for Aphrodite, the
Greek goddess of love. Other think that the name came from a Latin verb
meaning “the opening”. In fact , the Greeks called the season of spring ‘the opening’.
Spring officially starts on March 21(the vernal equinox). But April really
ushers in the spring. It is a month of growth for all nature. The winter snows
have melted, and plants begin to appear. Earle spring flowers, such as the
daisy, forsythia, lady’s-slipper, primrose and Bermuda (also called the Easter
lily), burst into full bloom.
For the animal kingdom, too,
April is the month of awakening. The animals that have slept all winter appear
dressed for spring. The weasel’s winter coat of white fur is now brown. The
snake sheds his old skin for a new one. Stags are busy rubbing the velvet
coating from their new horns.
Birds have retuned from the
warmer climates to build nests and lay eggs.
April is a month of the
spring rains, the month of new leaves, and spring flowers.
In April, nature awakens from
its winter sleep.
P3: April is the most pleasant month in England.
Please in year: 4th month;
Number of days: 30;
Flower: Sweet pea and daisy;
Birthstone: Diamond:
Zodiac signs: Aries, the Ram( March 21- April 19), Taurus, the
Bull( April 20-May 20);
Holidays that may occur in
either April or March: Palm Sunday,
Holy Week and Easter, Passover.
Very notable is April’s
weather:
One of its signs is showers.
When the English poet Robert
Browning was in Italy, he thought with love about showers.
Home Thoughts, From Abroad
Oh, to be in England
Now that April’s there,
And whoever wakes in England
Sees, some morning
unaware,
That the lowest boughs
And the brush-wood
sheaf
Round the elm-tree pole
are in tiny leaf.
While the chaffinch
sings
On the orchard bough
In England
– now!!
P4/ Glower, showery,
Snow and rain remain.
Drizzle finally
fizzles,
Wear a smile and an
umbrella.
Celebrate – spring is
great!
Checkerboard weather,
fickle as ever.
Watch for floods!
Bright and cheery,
dearie.
P5: Green blades of grass,
Yellow crocus shoots,
Go deep, dark roots,
Grow high, bright
flowers;
Good-bye, snow boots!
P6^April is time of Forget-me-not
Forget-me-not
Upon the blooming meadow,
A flower may be seen
Its blooms are blue as heaven
Its leaves are fresh and green.
And it is shy and humble
This flower of the meadow.
For all that it will whisper
It “Please, Forgot-me-not”
Sweet fresh are violets
On every hill and dell
And oh! How beautiful they are
P7:
One
sign it is April is all the showers. There are some popular proverbs about it.
According to the proverb^
March winds and April showers
Bring forth May flowers.
There
is another popular proverb:
April weather,
Rain and sunshine both together
P6:The first day of April is know in England as “April
Fools Day” Other country have other names for this cheerful anniversary on
which any person may be made an April Fool. Listen what Poor Robin’s Almanac of
1760 has to say about its origin:
The first of April, some do say
Is set apart for All Fools Day:
But why the people call it so
Not I, nor they themselves, do know!
One
of the traditional rhymes connected with this day runs:
Twenty shillings make a pound,
You’re the biggest fool in the town.
Four farthings make a penny,
You’re the biggest fool of any!
Anyone
who tries to make fool after midday is a bigger fool than he had been fooled.
The tardy trickster is instantly rebuffed:
April Fool’s gone and past,
You’re the biggest fool at last;
When April Fool’s Day comes again,
You ‘ll be the biggest fool then!

What is a Limerick?
Do
you know?It is interesting for you to get to know about it?
What is a Limerick?
A limerick is a short funny poem. It has five lines.
The form of the limerick is always the same. The first, the second and the
fifth lines are long. The third and the fourth lines are short. The first line
rhymes with the second one. The third line rhymes with the fourth line. The
first and the second lines rhyme with the fifth line. A limerick usually begins
with “There was a…” that corresponds to the Russian “Жил-был…”
P 8
There was a young lady of Niger,
Who smiled as she rode on a tiger.
They ended the ride
With the lady inside-
And the smile on the face of the tiger.
P9
There was an old Lady of France,
Who taught little duckling to dance.
When she said “Tick-a – tack!’
They only said “Quack!:
Which grieved that Old Lady of France.
P10.
There was a young fellow in Pealing,
Devoid of all delicate feelings.
When he read on the door,
“Don’t spit on the floor”
He immediately spat on the ceiling!
P11
There was an
old Man on the Rhine,
Who was asked at what hour he’d dine,
He replied “At eleven
Four, six, three and seven
Not to
mention a quarter to nine!
P12:
–
The doorbell is ringing
Better hurry and see
It might be the postman
With a present for me.
–
It might be a farmer
With a bag of hey
Or a clown from the circus
Who just wants to play?
–
It might be a spaceman
Coming in for a call
But today’s April Foot Day –
There is no one at all.
–
Here are some popular jokes:
- April Fool1s gone past
You are the biggest fool at last!
-
April Fool’s past and gone
-
You are the fool and I am none!
-
April Fool’s past and gone
-
You are the full for milking me
one.
