3) Постановка проблемы.
T: As you know our friends Robin
MacWizard, Misha Inin and Alice are in London now. They are in this
amazing and wonderful city. Yesterday they sent me a very interesting video,
many different photos of places they have visited in this town. Let`s take a look at them!

Основной
этап. Very
good. Now, look at the blackboard, please translate the phrase. На доске записана фраза: “If you are
tried of London you’re tired of life”. Samuel Johnson. Давайте
попробуем объяснить, почему Johnson так сказал о Лондоне. London is a city
of strong customs and traditions. There are a lot of places to see and things
to learn.
Task

Работа с лексическими единицами.

TASK 3
1. Tourists
in London always want to visit Westminster and see it. They want to see
the clock in its tower and to hear the bell. It is really a bell. You
hear it every hour. It is a big bell.. It has a deep tone and you can
hear it on the radio: “This is the BBC. The time is six o’ clock.” And then you
hear the deep boom of the bell six times.
2. It
was built in 1894. It is next to the Tower of London. It is one of the famous
bridges across the Thames. It opens and ships go up and down the river
Thames.
3. It
was built in the 11th century. It was planned by William the
Conqueror. It has a long and cruel history. It was used for many purposes: a
fortress, a royal palace and later a prison for important people. It is
a museum now.
4. It
is the famous waxworks museum. Here you can meet great characters of history
and art: actors, film stars, pop-singers, sportsmen, politicians. There is a
special place for the Queen’s family.
5. It
is one of the oldest churches in London. It is more than nine hundred
years old. There are many monuments and statues there. All English kings and
queens are crowned here. Many Kings, Queens and great men and women from
every century are buried here. They were famous politicians, lawyers, writers,
artists, and musicians.
6. It
is situated in the centre of London. It is well-known all over the
world. It is famous for Nelson’s Column. There are four lions at the
bottom of the column. You can see lovely fountains and historical monuments there.
TASK
4 – Now we’ll read the dialogue and train the pronunciation of words, word
combinations and phrases and fill in the gaps.
Dialogue.
Mary: Hi, Nick. I
haven’t seen you for ages. How is your new school?
Nick: Oh, it’s great.
The History lesson was very interesting today.
Mary: Really? What did
you learn?
Nick: We studied the
Great Fire of London. Now I know, it began in the house of king’s baker
because of the strong wind and destroyed 80% of the city.
Mary: Oh, it’s awful!
Nick: The fire actually saved
more people than it killed.
Mary: How could it
happen?
Nick: The fire killed a
lot of rats which transmitted the plague. That
helped to stop the plague.
Mary: Oh, it’s really
interesting. I didn’t know it.
Nick: Yes, I like my
History lessons.

Физминутка.
Let’s have a short break! Let’s stand
up. Repeat after me.
Up, down, up, down.
Where is the way to
London town?
Where? Where?
Up in the air.
Close your eyes
and you are there.
Заключительный
этап: That’s all for now.
Что нового вы сегодня узнали? Где вы
можете
применить
эти
знания?
We can conclude that it is very important to learn about other countries
because through the culture of foreign countries we learn better our own
culture.

My dear friends, we’re
going to read a letter from an English girl Nancy to her Russian friend Anna.
Nancy lives in London. Let’s have a look what she wrote in her letter. (The
teacher is giving out copies of the letter.)
Dear Anna,
Thanks for your letter which I got three days ago. How are you? I hope
everything is OK.
You asked me to describe you the place where I live. Well, I live in
Victoria Street, not far from Victoria railway station. It’s a busy mainline
station. You can find lots of shops along Victoria Street. The place where I
live isn’t quiet but I like it as it’s in the very heart of London and not many
people live here. You can go on foot from my house to St. Jame’s Park or to
Westminster Abbey.
St. James Park is the oldest Royal park in London. There are three famous
palaces around it: Westminster Palace (you know it as the Houses of
Parliament), St. James Palace and Buckingham Palace. Westminster Abbey is more
than nine hundred years old. The coronation of Kings and Queens has taken place
here since 1066. Many Kings, Queens and great men and women from every century
are buried here. They were famous politicians, lawyers, writers, artists, and
musicians.
What famous English writers, artists and musicians do you know? What is the
oldest building in London? Do you know anything about the Great Fire of London?
Well, I must finish my letter as my Mum asks me to help her with the
shopping.
I hope to hear from you soon.
Love,
Nancy
– My dear friends, I’d
like to see if you remember some facts from Nancy’s letter. Please,
answer the following questions.
- What railway station is not far from Nancy’s
house?
- What can you see along Victoria Street?
- How can you get from the place where Nancy lives
to St. James Park and Westminster Abbey?
- How many palaces are there around St. James Park?
- What is Westminster Abbey famous for?
