21-st Century Skills and Goals which we
should develop and achieve while teaching teenage students

their learning)
- Personal fulfillment of life
- Teach teenage students to use English effectively
The
ways to achieve these goals:
Tip 1.Personality

trusting,compassionate relationships with students

Problem Solvers.
Tip 2. Active learning.
Use active learning and organize different types of lessons (a
game, a quiz, a conference, project work, concerts and many other):
- To check up pupils’ knowledge in different fields of life

useful

Tip 3. Bring
modern devices and gadgets into the class.
When online components are incorporated into
student-centred learning activities both teachers and pupils can benefit from
it.
Why use digital
activities in the classroom?
- Increase student motivation
- Enhance the learning
experience
- Make teaching more efficient
- Lead to higher marks in tests
and exams
- Develop potential for deeper
learning of the subject
- Help to develop learner
autonomy
- Strengthen team work and
communication skills
! On-line

Tip 4.Make the
students the boss.

your work
- Ask your pupils for advice and help
- Understand how you learn
- Make your studies fit your
lifestyle
Tip 5.Don’t
fear failure
·
Take risks
·
Build resilience
·
Remember! A mistake is an
opportunity to learn
Tip 6. Ask-answer activities
·
Don’t ask student’s one by one in a set order. Ask in random
order to keep them on their toes.
·
Don’t just ask for the answer. Ask them to explain WHY is it’s
the answer.
·
If a student answers in a soft voice, don’t move closer to
him.
·
For variety, YOU answer the question.
·
Don’t be afraid of not answering tricky pupils’ questions,
just say :-I’ll check it!- if you are not sure in your answer! Or suggest them
to answer their own questions and share their knowledge )
Tip 7.Make
feedback Fun
·
Try to avoid the red pen while marking pupils’ tests and
copy-books (use different colours and emoji faces J K L
)
·
Get the students to correct each other
·
Share mistakes
·
Give a prize for the craziest mistake J
Tip 8.Hometask
- Hometask for teens cannot be repetitive and it should
have practical value. Include life tasks in your homework which will
motivate teens to do their homework.
- Offer choices.
- Offer
extra digital activities as homework. It’s a great timesaver
for teachers! You will minimize your lesson
preparation by automated homework checking.
- Give the teens hometask which they understand and realize, why they have to do
it and how it can be useful for them in
the future. Don’t give them homework just because you have to give them
homework!
- Students may also have ‘bad’ days
Sometimes teen students can be
in a bad mood or stressed for different reasons (overhelmed with school work
and tests, problems with the members of the family, friends, love and so
on).Don’t make the matter worse-don’t shout or critisize them for not doing
their homework or passiveness at the
lesson. Support them and ask them to be ready and bring homework for the next
lesson
- Homework and lazy students. Dealing with lazy
pupils can be frustrating! But!If the exercise was for homework and
someone didn’t do it again, make them do it and answer it NOW!
- Why
don’t you have –No homework-
lesson- TODAY?! J (an unexpected moment)
Tip 9.Motivate and
encourage teenage students to speak English as much as possible.
Tell pupils and give them real examples how knowledge of
English and communicative skills can help them to succeed in the future. You
can use real-life videos, audios and social networks to communicate with your
friends abroad and practice your language.
Why speak more languages?
- Think differently
- Get more info about the world
- Open doors to education
- Open doors to work
opportunities
- Earn more money
- Open doors to travel
- Make international
friendships
!!!Try
to finish every lesson with communicative tasks!!!
Tip

presenting information to your students and working with it.
Students like watching and analysing interesting and
up-to-date information both from the Internet and books. Include different
bars, charts and infographics in your lessons.
For example:
-What skills are required outside the classroom?-
Activity.
Make a guess:-What percentage of employers place high importance on each
of the following things?
Pupils try to guess, and then teacher show them the right
answer on the slide and have a discussion on this topic.

done! Good job!)
- Competition
- Guessing
- The unexpected moments
- Humour and jokes
- Emotional/personal involvement (teen students like
chanting, singing and acting a lot when we work with the chants, dialogues
and conversational formulas at the lesson)
!Reading and singing together
aloud is a great way to practice the proper intonation and to have fun at the
lesson!
- Opportunity for persistence and experimentation
- Positive
engagement and positive thinking J
Tip 12.Prepare
students for the state exams.
Make them remember:
- Exam tasks are similar across exams
- There are universal rules for exam success. Teach
teen students all the necessary techniques and give them tips to prepare
for the state exams.
- Use the 3T rule: teaching –training-testing
- Give them criteria and self-assessment cards to
prepare students for oral and written parts of the state exams (personal
letter/essay/speaking)
Remember! Every
class is different! Every pupil is unique!
