(план урока по учебнику «Английский в фокусе» 8 класс)
ТЕМА: Френсис
Дрейк- великий исследователь и пират.
Цель: организовать
деятельность учащихся по изучению и активизации лексического материала, совершенствованию
навыков чтения и говорения.
Предметные:
изучение и активизация нового лексического материала, речевых оборотов и
разговорных клише, совершенствование навыков чтения и говорения;
Метапредметные: развитие
навыков аудирования; развитие памяти, внимания, мышления, познавательных
интересов.
Личностные: формировать
гражданскую идентичность учащихся через освоение общекультурного наследия
(достижения науки); формировать систему ценностей; воспитывать уважение к людям
разных профессий.

на доске слова, крылатое выражение, прикрепить портрет Френсиса Дрейка.
Ход
урока
1.
Организационный этап
1)
Stand up, children. Good morning. Nice to meet
you. Today we are going to continue our topic. By the way, what did we speak
about in the last lesson? So, what is our topic?
2)

No
pessimist ever discovered the secret of the stars or sailed to uncharted land,
or opened a new doorway for the human spirit (Helen Keller)
How
do you understand this saying? Let’s translate it. Do you think a pessimist can
discover a new land? Who can do it? Do you think explorers and scientists are
pessimistic or optimistic?
Now
, look at this portrait. Whom do you see in the picture? Do you know anything
about him? Let’s try to make up 3-4 questions what you’d like to know about
him?

1) Let’s
review the names of explorers and scientists we’ve learnt. I think they all
were optimistic. Let’s work in 3 groups. I’ll give you sheets of paper where
you can find names of scientists and their discoveries. Match them the names
and their discoveries. I’ll give you 2 minutes.
Now,
let’s check your task. Look at the screen, you’ll give the names and I’ll
write them down on the screen. Great, you are very smart and I think in future
you can also be successful.

-I’d like to tell you about Francis Drake’s childhood, who was an English
seaman and explorer.
2-
He was born in Crowndale in England in the family of a farmer, Edmund Drake in
1540. There were 12 children in the family and he was the eldest one. His life
was very hard; he had to work from morning till night to help parents. In 1549
the family moved to Kent. His parents’ relative had a ship and he took Frances
to his ship. At the age of 12 he became an apprentice in the ship and at the
age of 18 he became a captain of the ship when his relative died.

In 1572 Queen Elizabeth sent Drake on a mission to Panama to rob some Spanish
ships. Drake became the first Englishman to sail the Straits of Magellan in
South America. He attacked Spanish colonies along the Strait and took their
gold. He became a pirate. The Spanish were afraid of him and started to call him
“The Dragon”.

He also travelled around the world. Drake began his sea voyage on the 15 of
November 1577 from Plymouth. He
brought 160 men with him and they headed for a land in the Pacific Ocean. He
hoped to find Australia. The ships went down the tip of South America through the Magellan
strait. Drake didn’t want to
get into trouble so he decided to go home through the Pacific Ocean and the Indian
Ocean. It meant that he was going to sail around the world. He stopped at the
Philippine islands for food supplies and made a couple of other stops along the
way. He travelled around the
Cape of Good Hope on his way back to England.He finally
returned to Plymouth in September and was made a national hero.

Queen Elizabeth 1 knighted him and renamed his ship “the Golden Hind” for his
bravery and for that he brought 600000 pounds of gold for England.

Drake began his voyage from Plymouth, first he travelled across the Atlantic
Ocean to South America. He reached Cape Horn and travelled around South
America and then sailed to North America before getting to the Moluccas Islands
in the Pacific ocean. He then sailed around the southern tip of Africa –Cape of
good Hope and finally returned to England in September 1580
