Black and orange are the traditional colors of Halloween. Elements of the autumn season, such as pumpkins and scarecrows, are also symbols of Halloween. The jack-o'-lantern, is one of Halloween's most prominent symbols. Many families carve a pumpkin into a frightening face and place it on their home's doorstep after dark. The practice was intended to frighten away evil spirits or monsters. Halloween's theme is spooky or scary things particularly involving death, magic, or mythical monsters. Halloween characters include ghosts, ghouls, witches, bats, black cats, owls, spiders, goblins, zombies, skeletons and demons, as well as Dracula and Frankenstein's monster. Homes are often decorated with these symbols around Halloween.
