  IN KRASNOYARSK
  The 2019 Winter Universiade (Russian: Зимняя Универсиада 2019) will be an international student and youth competition, which is scheduled to take place from 2–12 March 2019 in the Russian city of Krasnoyarsk.

  WELCOME TO THE 29th WINTER UNIVERSIADE
  IN KRASNOYARSK
  Students aged 17 to 25, and graduates who have received an academic degree or diploma in the year preceding the competitions are allowed to participate in the competition.

  The logo of the Winter Universiade 2019 is based on the Latin letter "U" – the first letter of the word "Universiade",
  the city name in English and the year the Games take place – Krasnoyarsk 2019,
  the sequence number and the name of the event in English – 29th Winter Universiade,

  THE SLOGANS OF THE UNIVERSIADE
  The main slogan of the Games is "Real Winter".
  The first Winter Universiade in Russia will take place in 2019 in Krasnoyarsk – the geographical center of Siberia.
  Russia is the biggest country in the world by area, with long and severe winters.
  Russia is associated by foreigners with "frost" and "winter".
  Another slogan is "100% Winter", which is used together with any of the slogans or independently.
  The slogan "Welcome to Winter!" is also used.

  THE MASCOT OF THE UNIVERSIADE
  The official mascot of the Winter Universiade 2019 is "U-Laika", a Siberian dog of the Laika breed, the symbol of loyalty, friendliness, joy and unbridled energy.
  Laika is a friend always ready to help in hard times and support in striving to the most trying goal.

  MOSCOW – THE HOST OF THE VII SUMMER UNIVERSIADE
  The 1973 Summer Universiade, or the VII Summer Universiade, took place in Moscow, the USSR.
  There were events in ten sports.
  4000 athletes took part in the competitions.
  Our sportsmen won 68 gold medals, 36 silver medals and 30 bronze medals in the Universiade.

  2013 SUMMER UNIVEWRSIADE IN KAZAN
  The 2013 Summer Universiade, officially known as the XXVII Summer Universiade, was held in the city of Kazan, the most northerly city ever to host a Summer Universiade.
  Over 10,400 university athletes from 162 countries participated in 13 mandatory and 14 optional sports.
  The 2013 Universiade was the biggest in the history of the event.
  Athletes competed for 351 sets of medals.

  There will be events in eleven sports.
  Athletes will compete for 76 sets of awards in 11 sports: alpine skiing, bandy, biathlon, cross-country skiing, curling, figure skating, freestyle skiing, ice hockey, short track, ski orienteering, snowboarding.

  ALPINE SKIING
  Alpine skiing is the pastime of sliding down snow-covered slopes on skis with fixed-heel bindings.
  Alpine skiing has been an event at the Winter Olympic Games since 1936.
  As of 1994, there were estimated to be 55 million people worldwide, who engaged in Alpine skiing.
  The competitions alpine skiing and probably snowboard will take place in that complex.

  BANDY
  Bandy is a team winter sport played on ice, in which skaters use sticks to direct a ball into the opposing team's goal.
  Like football, the game is normally played in halves of 45 minutes each.
  There are eleven players on each team, and the bandy field is about the same size as a football pitch.
  It is played on ice like ice hockey, but like field hockey, players use bowed sticks and a small ball.
  Bandy competitions will take place at the Yenisei Ice Stadium.
  It has about 5,000 seats.

  BIATHLON
  The biathlon is a winter sport that combines cross-country skiing and rifle shooting. It is treated as a race where the contestant with the shortest total time wins.
  The first Biathlon World Championship was held in 1958 in Austria.
  In 1960 the sport was included in the Olympic Games.

  The venue began full operation in 2011. It Includes a sports complex with a hotel, shooting area with 30 targets and 12 km of ski tracks. Its simultaneous operating capacity is 106 people.

  CROSS - COUNTRY SKIING
  Cross-country skiing is a form of skiing where skiers rely on their own locomotion to move across snow-covered terrain.
  Cross-country skiing is widely practiced as a sport and recreational activity.
  The FIS Nordic World Ski Championships have been held in various numbers and types of events since 1925 for men and since 1954 for women.
  From 1924 to 1939, the World Championships were held every year.
  After World War II, the World Championships were held every four years from 1950 to 1982.
  Since 1985, the World Championships have been held in odd-numbered years.

  CURLING
  Сurling is a sport in which players slide stones on a sheet of ice towards a target area which is segmented into four concentric circles.
  Two teams, each with four players, take turns sliding heavy, polished granite stones, also called rocks, across the ice curling sheet towards the house, a circular target marked on the ice.
  Curling has been a medal sport in the Winter Olympic Games since the 1998 Winter Olympics.
  The Ivan Yarygin Sports Palace was opened in 1981.
  It is meant for curling competitions in the 29th Winter Universiade.

  FIGURE SKATING
  Figure skating is a sport in which individuals, duos, or groups perform on figure skates on ice. It was the first winter sport included in the Olympics, in 1908.
  The four Olympic disciplines are men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dance.
  Non-Olympic disciplines include synchronized skating, Theater on Ice, and four skating.
  The complex is meant for ceremonies and figure skating competitions in the Universiade.
  Its capacity is up to 7,000 people.

  FREESTYLE SKIING
  Freestyle skiing is a skiing discipline comprising aerials, moguls, cross, half-pipe and slopestyle as part of the Winter Olympics. It can consist of a skier performing aerial flips and spins, and can include skiers sliding rails and boxes on their skis.
  Winter Sports Academy Regional Sports and Training Complex.
  The competitions freestyle skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing and orienteering will take place in that complex.

  Ski orienteering is a cross-country skiing endurance winter racing sport and one of the four orienteering disciplines recognized by the IOF.
  Ski orienteering events are designed to test both physical strength and navigation skills of the athletes.
