  1. Despite and in spite of are prepositions and have the same meaning (несмотря на).
  Despite/in spite of the heavy traffic, we got there on time.

  Although and even though are conjunctions and have the same meaning (хотя, несмотря на). 
  They are used at the beginning of a subordinate clause, and express that the action in the main clause is surprising, unusual, or unexpected:
  
  He drives a second-hand car, [main clause] even though he’s a multi-millionaire. [subordinate clause]
  
  
  We could also begin with the subordinate clause, without changing the meaning:
  Even though he’s a multi-millionaire, he drives a second-hand car.

  В разговорной речи слово though часто используется как наречие «однако», «тем не менее», «но все же», «но» в простом или сложном предложении. В этом случае оно стоит в конце предложения и обычно отделяется запятой.
  Сложность этой конструкции в том, что по-русски в аналогичной ситуации мы ставим соответствующий оборот в середину или начало предложения, а не в конец.
