Introduction:

Good afternoon to all of you! I’m glad to welcome you at our competition “Speak English”. English is the international language and if you know it you’ll have much more opportunities to be successful. It is the key to the whole world.

And today you came here to show your deep knowledge of the language. There are 8 students from different groups from the second course. I also want to introduce our jury. All your tasks will be marked with 10 points score. I wish you good luck and creativity with all the tasks! Let’s start!

1. Grammar Task.

The first task is grammar test. You have twenty-five questions and forty minutes for the answers. Here are the questions:

Now as you’ve completed this task let’s move to more interesting one – Introduction of Yourselves! You have 3-4 minutes each for your self-presentations, which are very creative I’m sure.

Students show their presentations and tell about themselves.

3. Christmas Holiday Task.

Now we’re going to talk about Christmas. First of all, Elena Koretkina will tell you a beautiful poem about this holiday.

4. Role-plays.

Now the participants of our competition will show how they deal with difficult situations. Each student gets the card with their task and we’ll have three different situations for role-plays.

Medical Game

1. Doctor

Read your card and find other members of medical game among those who are present at the cocktail party.

You’re a doctor in the polyclinic. You have to be in your office but in fact now you’re driving home because you forgot to turn the kettle off. When you came back to work you see an angry patient who was waiting for you for 45 minutes. Explain the patient your absence.

2. A nurse.

Read your card and find other members of medical game among those who are present at the cocktail party.

You’re the doctor’s assistant. The doctor is away. The patient is waiting for him and getting angry. Try to calm the patient down until the doctor comes.

3. A patient.

Read your card and find other members of medical game among those who are present at the cocktail party.

You’re a patient. You want to consult the doctor about your headache. The nurse told you the doctor would be back in 10 minutes but you have been waiting for 45 minutes already. You’re very angry. You would like to tell the doctor what you think of him. Do it politely.
