Now I’d like to tell you about the rules of the quiz. The quiz has six rounds,
the topic of every round you’ll see at the interactive board. In every round of
the quiz there’ll be different tasks, that you’ll have to do for a limited
period of time. Every right answer in the round brings the team a certain
quantity of points:
§ The first round – 1 point
§ The second round – 2 points
§ The third round – 3 points
§ The fourth round – 4 points
§ The fifth round – 5 points
§ The sixth round – 6 points
The team which gets the most quantity of points to the end of the quiz wins.

The fifth round “London sights”
We continue to travel around Great Britain and welcome to the fifth round “London sights”. Every team gets a card with the descriptions of three sights of London.
The task of the team is to guess what sightseeing of London the matter is
about. Every right answer brings the team five points. There are four minutes
for you to do this task.
This palace is very
beautiful. It is the official residence of the Queen. Every day at 11.30
a.m. you can see the ceremony of the Changing of the Guard in front of this
place. In front of it there is Queen Victoria Memorial. There are 600 rooms, 78
bathrooms, a cinema, a swimming pool and even a post
office.

It
is the name of the great bell which strikes the hour. It is in the Clock Tower
of the Houses of Parliament. It was made in 1858. The clock’s four white faces
look north, south, east and west. Many people think it was something to do with
Sir Benjamin Hall.

It is one of London’s most famous symbols. It is a wonder of the world. It is over the river Thames.
It was opened in 1894. You get fantastic views of London from the high
walkways. It houses an excellent museum telling the story of its design,
construction and history.
(Tower Bridge)
It is a symbol of England.
It was built in the 11th century by Edward the Confessor. The
coronation of all British Kings and Queens takes place in this beautiful
building. Many British monarchs, writers, poets, musicians and scientists are
also buried here.
(Westminster Abbey)
It is the greatest work of England’s greatest architect, Christopher Wren. It was built after the Great Fire of 1666.
It took him thirty-five years to finish it. When Wren died he was buried in his
this magnificent building. There are memorials to many famous men of England here.
(St Paul’s Cathedral)
It is the heart of tourists’ London.
It is a good place for meetings and demonstrations. There is Nelson’s Column in
the centre of it. Thousands of pigeons fly here and people feed them.
