THE USE OF INNOVATIVE TECHNIQUES IN THE PROCESS OF DEVELOPING LISTENING SKILLS IN TEACHING FOREIGN LANGUAGE

The use of innovations in teaching and education grows each year. Innovation techniques have also spread to the world of teaching foreign language. The process of the development of productive skills as well as receptive, the formation of the communicative culture of students, teaching practical use of foreign languages create the main tasks of teaching foreign languages.

The object of the thesis is the use of innovative techniques in the process of the development listening skills in teaching language. Listening is an active process where a student listens to the foreign words being spoken, processes them, assigns their meaning, and then strives to reuse them in spoken or written form. This process is an integral method that needs to be used for successful listening and comprehension. Of course, the use of an exact method of teaching listening depends on age-related audience but still the main purpose of the listening model of language teaching is development of the body of knowledge by providing listening practice that prepares students for understanding real-life communication situations. As for the new methods, it should be mentioned that information technologies (IT) became inseparable part of modern life and teaching isn’t an exception. Taking into consideration student's interest in IT computers should be used in teaching foreign languages as a powerful tool of the development of their motivation. Integration of a usual lesson with computer let teacher shift part of his work on the computer making the lesson more interesting and intensive. Computers make favorable conditions for student’s individual works at the English lesson [3]. The main advantage of using computes during listening that is every student has an opportunity to hear foreign speech individually. Also while students are listening to another person speaking a foreign language, the temptation is to immediately translate into his native language. This temptation becomes much stronger when a student hears a word he doesn’t understand. When he translates into his native language, he is taking the focus of his attention away from the speaker and concentrating on the translation process taking place in his brain. Using headphones make this process easier because they let avoid unnecessary noise and help them focus on the task. Using of the microphone let correct phonetics skills. With its help students may listen or watch to a short current news item that will let them be in the sphere of native-speakers in order to memorize correct pronunciation, sentence structure and intonation, understand slang. Such web-sites in addition will let students be informed in wrap up [1, p. 3 – 4].

Learning language by watching video increases the effectiveness of memorizing of the material and makes learning really pleasing. The more emotional film –the better it would be. Students may listen to the same episode a lot of time in order to hear clearly words and it should be mentioned that during video lessons method of the visualization of the pronunciation is also take place. Multimedia let not only hear correct pronunciation and understand it but also memorize concrete manner of speaking and behavior that is specific for an exact case [2, p. 188 – 189].

Using of audiobooks definitely improve the effectiveness of knowledge. Combination of reading and listening may increase students’ vocabulary and improve ability of speech perception. Advantage of this method that person has an ability to listen to a book in case he hasn’t got enough time to read it. Passive listening is an excellent method to understand speech better without listening attentively to each word.

SUMMARY

By using innovative foreign language teaching strategies, teachers can increase students' overall enjoyment of the subject and encourage them to become lifelong learners, increase the relevancy of the lessons and allow students to develop their ability to understand information presented through an array of formats.
