Warming – up
Good-afternoon everybody.
Everyone is here, everyone is fine and happy. I am very glad to see you today
on the 13th of December. I am not afraid of this date. It has been a
very lucky date for me, because my son was born on the 13th of
December. Today he is 11. Are you suspicious of this number? (pupils’ answers ).
2 .Introduction
to the Topic
Despite the number, time to
start the lesson. I want you to have a look at my table. What do you usually
see on it? (books, papers, tests, exercise-books, etc. ) What do you see now?
(a glass of water ). What do you think this water
is for? (pupils’ answers ).
I will give you a prompt. Let us appeal to the classics, as we usually do in
difficult situations. An extract from “Othello” by W. Shakespeare will help
you.
Good name in man and women, dear my
lord,
Is the immediate jewel of their souls.
Who steals my purse steals trash.
Tis something, nothing
Twas mine, tis his
And has been slave to thousands
But he that filches from me
My good name
Robs me of that which not enriches him
And makes me poor indeed.
Yes, you are right. I wanted
to symbolize something. Water is a symbol of purity. Purity in everything around
us: at home, at school, in our town, in our country, in the world. But I
brought this water today on purpose to remind you of spiritual purity. You are
hard-working students, you are kind and generous people, you are faithful
friends. And I wish you and our guests to be pure in body and mind in future,
not to let your good name be stolen from you, because when you leave school you
will see that life is not a bed of roses. Look at the board. “ A good
name is sooner lost than won.” “Though riches may perish, good
name you may cherish ” Can you agree with me?

.Group Work. Lexical and Grammar Practice.
The topic of our lesson is “Crime and
Punishment .“ We are going to do some lexical exercises on the topic and we are
having a meeting to speak about a young burglar, who was not locked up. We are
going to decide what to do with him.
I want you to form two groups 5 pupils
each.
TASK1. You are to fill in the blanks. The first letter of each missing
word has been given. Let us do it all together on-the-spot. One by one.
TASK2. This task is to be done in groups. You have 2 minutes to get
ready. You can speak to each other & help each other. Which crimes are
being described in the following situations? The first group is doing the first
10 sentences, the other group is doing the second 10 sentences. Then we will
check.
TASK 3. The last task is word-formation. Complete the blanks with the
correct form of the word given. Choose 1 person who will write down the words
on the blackboard. Choose one more who will check the words from the other
group, using my keys. And you need one pupil who will retell the text. You are to listen to the other group and
ask questions.
4.
Speaking Activities. A Talk - Show.
As
we can see every crime should be punished. Yesterday we read an article about
Brian North. The case is very strange and we got interested in it. That is why
we are having a talk – show “ What should be done?” We have different people
here
1.
Brine
North
2.
The boy’ mother
3.
Psychologist
4.
A
representative of the police
5.
A witness
6.
A
reporter from Today newspaper
(Pupils
are discussing the problem, giving their suggestions). )
5.
Listening for Specific Information Activities
Now
I want you to listen to what actually happened to Brian. What do you think of
that? Will curfew help?
6.
Reflexion
We
spoke about different crimes today. I wish you to remember “ Errare humanum est “ What does this Latin proverb mean? ..It means every
person can make a mistake. But “ If you can keep your head when all about you
are losing theirs … you’ll be a Man.” I feel “ If “ by Rudyard Kipling will be a
logical conclusion. Listen and enjoy. Think about valuable qualities a person
should poses.
7. Home
Assignment
I
hope you liked the poem you listened to. At home try to do a translation of
any part of “ If “or an extract from “ Othello” I recited today if you want.
And your home task is to learn the extract “ Good name “ by heart.
8.
Results
We
worked successfully at the lesson. Thank you for everything. I think you
deserve ….marks. May be our guests have some questions? ....... Thanks. The
lesson is over. Have a nice day. See you again.
