(competition for the pupils of 8^th and 9^th grades)

    Dear teachers  and pupils! You are welcome to our  meeting.  You are representatives of two great countries: Kazakhstan and Great Britain. Our meeting will be held in the form of competition.  You will get one point for each right answer. And now let’s begin our competition.

  Now let me introduce you the jury for our game:

5.     What is the most  popular national holiday in Kazakhstan? (Nauryz)

6.     What are the two chambers of the Parliament of Kazakhstan? (the Senate, the Majilis)

7.     What kind of state is Kazakhstan? (it is a democratic, legal and social state)

8.     When was the last Constitution approved? (on 30 August 1995)

9.     Do you know great people of Kazakhstan? (Abai Kunanbayev, Shokan Ualikhanov, Mukhtar Auezov, Kanysh Satbayev etc.)

About Great Britain:

1.     What is the official name of Great Britain? (The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.)

2.     What are the countries of the United Kingdom? (England, Scotland, Wales. Northern Ireland)

3.     What river is the British  capital situated on? (on the Thames River)

4.     Who is the head of  the Great Britain? (Queen Elizabeth II)

5.     What is the London home of the Queen? (Buckingham Palace)

6.     What is Whitehall? (Whitehall is a street where many of the British government offices and historical buildings stand)

7.     What are the Houses of the British Parliament? (the House of Lords, the house of Commons )

8.     What kind of state is the United Kingdom? (it  is a parliamentary monarchy )

9.     Do you know great people of Great Britain? (Lewis Carroll, Games Cook, Charlie Chaplin, Michael Faraday)

3. The National Flag of Your  Country

The captain says the national flag of your countries.

        The national flag of  Kazakhstan.

    The national flag of  Kazakhstan is blue. It is the colour of the cloudless sky, which is the symbol of peace. There is the sun of the centre  of the flag. It is the symbol of life, the source of energy. Rays have the form of grain. The steppe  eagle is the symbol of independence, freedom and state power. The yellow ornament  is the symbol of the Kazakhstan art. The author of the flag is Shaken Niyazbekov.

The Union Jack is the popular name given to the flag of Great Britain. “Jack” is on old word for the sailor. The Union Jack is a mixture of several flags. It all began in 1606  when Scotland was joined to England and Wales. The Scottish flag , blue with the white  cross from corner to corner, was joined to the English flag , white with red cross. Later in  1801, when Ireland was joined to the Union , the Irish flag was added, white  with a red cross from corner to corner. In this way the English people got the Union Flag which is red, white and blue.
