As you know the 25th of December is a Christmas Day.
Now let’s listen the reports about:
Christmas Day.
Christmas Day.
Christmas Day is celebrated on the 25th of December. In the America it’s the most important holiday of the year.
Christmas is a family holiday. Shops, post offices, banks and business houses close for the day. Schools and colleges close between Christmas and New Year’s Day.
People stay at home and spend the time with their families. Everyone is buying Christmas presents for friends and relations. People send cards or Christmas greetings to their friend. They wish their friends “Merry Christmas” and “A Happy New Year”.
Every family tries to have a Christmas tree, which is decorated with coloured lights. They also hang little toys, sweets on the tree and they put presents under the tree.
Little children believe that when they are asleep Santa Claus comes to visit them with a big bag of toys. They often hang up large stockings to receive the presents.
On Christmas morning children look into their stockings and see their gifts.
The grown-ups save their presents till breakfast time. After breakfast the grown-ups go to church, but the children will be playing
with their new toys and their mother will be preparing dinner. Usually the whole family has a big Christmas dinner in the afternoon or evening.
Traditional Christmas Food
In Great Britain probably the most popular tradition which hangs on regardless of modern living, is the mince pie. English people have a custom that they make a wish on the first one of the season. After that they try to eat at least one for every day of the twelve days of Christmas, which will then bring them good fortune for the twelve months until next Christmas. Another custom is to offer and accept a mince pie in each house you visit over Christmas. Not to offer these is bad manners, and was at one time thought to be so inhospitable as to bring bad luck on the house fir the rest of the year! To refuse them when offered was to turn away good fortune.
In the USA the Christmas table looks much like a Thanksgiving feast of turkey or ham, potatoes and pie. Many Americans traditional desserts were started long ago in other parts of the world. Guests bring English fruit cake or plum pudding as presents to their hosts. “Crostoli,” a friend bread spiced with orange peel, is made in Italian-American communities. As an ending for the Christmas banquet, Americans of German background eat “Pfeffernuesse,” a bread full of sweet spices. At Christmas Eve gatherings, adults drink eggnog, a drink made of cream, milk, sugar, beaten eggs and brandy or rum.
Thank you very much for your interesting reports.
Now let’s sign your greeting cards. Look at the blackboard you can see congratulations choose one of these poems and write down it in your cards.

Now let’s sing the song “Happy New Year”
Happy New Year
No more champagne
And the fireworks are through
Here we are, me and you
Feeling lost and feeling blue
It’s the end of the party
And the morning seems so grey
So unlike yesterday
Now’s the time for us to say…
Happy New Year
Happy New Year
May we all have a vision now and then
Of a world where every neighbor is a friend
Happy New Year
Happy New Year
If we don’t we might as well lay down and die
You and I
Sometimes I see
How the brave new world arrives
And I see how it thrives
In the ashes of our lives
Oh yes, man is a fool
And he thinks he’ll be okay
Dragging on, feet of clay
Never knowing he’s astray
Keeps on going anyway…
Happy New Year
Happy New Year
May we all have a vision now and then
Of a world where every neighbor is a friend
Happy New Year
Happy New Year
If we don’t we might as well lay down and die
You and I
Seems to me now
That the dreams we had before
Are all dead, nothing more
Than confetti on the floor
It’s the end of a decade
In another ten years time
Who can say what we’ll find
What lies waiting down the line
In the end of eighty-nine…
Happy New Year
Happy New Year
May we all have a vision now and then
Of a world where every neighbor is a friend
Happy New Year
Happy New Year
If we don’t we might as well lay down and die
You and I
