Good
morning! Dear students and teachers! Welcome to our project, which is called
« Traditions of the
USA, the UK and Russia in the dialogues of cultures ».
The traditions are
Christmas, St. Valentines Day, Easter, St. Patrick’s Day, Halloween and
Thanksgiving Day. The are 6 teams, which are from different Schools. Each school
should represent its own tradition, which is associated with the tradition in
Russia. Our participants should represent chosen tradition, take part in
blitz-tour, write personal letter to English friend and read. The members of
the team will take part in different activities.
So, the first round… .

The first round is
representing different traditions.

The second round – taking
part in blitz- tournament. You should answer my questions. You will say only
one word – the name of tradition. You should be very attentively.
1) It
is the world’s celebrated in all countries. It is celebrated on the 25th
oh December in catholic countries.
2) It
is celebrated only in America. It is celebration of thanks for rich harvest.
3) It
is a spring tradition. It is celebrated in the USA, the UK and Russia.
4) Red
roses are the most common flowers given on this day.
5) People
believed that there were many ghosts and witches on this day.
Green
is the official colour of this tradition. It is the symbol of spring.
6) Jack-o’-lanterns
are hallowed out of pumpkins with face carved into one side on this day.
7) People
also paint green stripes on the city streets.
8) People
dye and exchanged dyed eggs.
9) Red
is the most popular colour of this tradition.
10) Children like this
tradition very much. They hang stockings on their beds and in the morning there
are presents there.
11) The main symbol is
cross. It is a resurrection of Jesus.
12) Children dress in
costumes and masks and go from door to door saying “trick or treat”
13) Abraham Lincoln
suggested the last Thursday in November to be the day of this tradition.
14) It is an Irish
tradition, but it is celebrated in many countries.
15) It is celebrated
in February in catholic countries.
16) Roast turkey and
pudding are traditional meals for this tradition.
17) In the UK children
believe, that they are good ”Traditional Bunny” will leave chocolate eggs for
them.
18) People decorate
their houses with traditional wreaths and fir-trees.
19) Traditional
activities are dressing up in green, holding parades, going to pubs, organizing
fairs.
20) Saint married
young people and he was behaved on this day.
21) The traditional
meal on this day consists of stuffed turkey with herbs, cranberry jelly and
pumpkin pie.
22) People do not
believe in ghosts and witches, but they like telling stories about tm n this
day
23) On this day family
members gather on the house of an older relative to have dinner.
