1. Read and translate the Pilot-book:
Buoys: A red conical buoy with a flag, No. 34B,
is moored about 3 miles north-north-eastward of the lighthouse on the
north-eastern end of Red Islet bank.
A conical
light buoy, No. 36B, painted red and exhibiting a red flashing light, is moored
about one mile east-north-eastward of the lighthouse, close to the eastern edge
of the drying reef that extends from Red islet.
Dangers: Plateau des Triagos extends about 4¼
miles westward from a position about 5 miles north-north-westward of the
north-eastern extremity of Ile Grande. A group of high rocks and numerous
drying and submerged rocks are situated on its eastern part. On its western end
is a rock with a least depth of 2½ fathoms (4m6).
Anchorages: A low wooded point, affords good shelter
for a small craft with local knowledge during strong north-westerly winds,
which prevail in winter. Vessels can obtain well sheltered anchorage in depths
of from 9 to 13 fathoms (16m5 to 23m8), soft sand, good
holding ground, in the north-western part of Sharm Dumagha, which is
landlocked.

Dangers: The approach to Le Havre (Lat.49°29´N.,
Long.0°07´E.) is encumbered by shoals, which border the coast from Cap de la
Heve for 3 miles south-eastward; these shoals, with depths of less than 6
fathoms (11m0) over them, extend about 3 miles offshore.
Anchorage: A tolerable anchorage is obtainable within the islets, but any
attempt to enter without previous examination or local knowledge would be
dangerous. A good berth is in depths of from 7 to 10 fathoms (12m8
to 18m3), sand and coral, fair holding ground. Large vessels anchor
in the outer anchorage; here they are sheltered but the bottom is foul ground
and coral.
Lights: A light is exhibited, at an elevation of 33 feet (10m1)

Anchorage: Vessels are forbidden to anchor, or ground on, near the oyster
beds, which are marked by red buoys. There is a temporary anchorage off Creux
harbour. The bottom is composed of sand and rock and the holding ground is
poor. This anchorage is best approached from northward. The examination
anchorage has been established at the entrance to Alderney harbour.
Beacons: Two pole beacons, painted black and

1. Read and translate the Pilot-book:
Obstruction: An obstruction, with a depth of 6¼ fathoms
(11m4) over it, lies close northward of Passed u Nord-Ouest and 2
miles west-south-westward of Cap de la Heve Light-tower.
Directions: Having rounded La Corbiere, vessels should
pass between Les Kaines and the Bank by steering for Noirmont point, bearing
096°, astern, which leads midway through the narrowest part of the channel off
Point Le Fret.
Regulations: The speed of the vessels must not exceed 8
knots for entering, and 6 knots for leaving the harbour. Towage is compulsory
for vessels unable to manoeuvre at these speeds. On account of dredging in the
channel, all vessels passing through it, in either direction, should give
warning of their approach. Vessels with explosives or inflammables on board
should display B flag of the International Code of Signals by day and
exhibit a red light at night.
Cautions: The buoys are constantly shifted to meet
the changes in the channels and the light sectors are modified to meet such
changes.
