IV. Speech practice:
1. I know that all of you are fond of sport somehow. Am I
right? Let’s tell our guest about your favourite kinds of sport. What is it and
why do you like it?
- My favourite kind of sport is…I like it because…
V. Work on the text:
You see, children. I have a friend Carla Robson by name. She
is fond of volleyball. Let’s read what she writes about this game. Open your
books at page 66. You have to read the text and fill in the gaps with linking
words before, during or after.
VI. Checking the home task.
2. Your home task was to write some rules of any sport you
like. Now listen to each other’s stories and try to guess the name of the
sport. (Писаревский, Емельянова, Митрофанова, Безменова, Бызова, Ненашев)
VII. Work on the dialogues.
1. Look at the board. These girls are good friends and they
like sport very much. The only thing is that they are good at different kinds
of sport. Let’s read their conversation.
Susan: So, do you want to play tennis this weekend?
Christine: I'm afraid I can't play tennis.
Susan: No, are you joking? I'm sure you can play tennis. Everybody
can play tennis.
Christine: Well, I can't. But I can play golf.
Susan: Really, I can play golf, too - but not very well.
Christine: I have an idea. Why don't we play tennis this weekend and
then next weekend golf?
Susan: OK, that's a good idea. You don't play tennis - I don't play
golf. We both can learn a new sport!
Christine: That's it. I think it's a brilliant idea!
2. Now listen to me and agree or disagree with my
statements.
- Christine is good at tennis. (F)
- Susan is sure that everybody can play tennis. (T)
- Christine can play golf. (T)
- Susan is good at golf too. (F)
- Susan has an idea how both of them can learn a new
sport. (F)
3. I am sure that all of you are good at different kinds
of sport. Try to make your own dialogues according to this model and tell us
about your interests in sport.
VII. Physical exercises:
As we are very sportive today, let’s have a rest and do
some exercises.
VIII. Listening.
Thousand of years ago ancient Greeks said: “A healthy
mind in a healthy body.” Millions of people go in for sport and think that it
is really so. At the same time a great number of people prefer watching sport
competitions to participating in them. I had an opportunity to interview some
pupils from our school and find out their opinion about sport. (To show the
photos.)
Let’s listen to them and you’ll do some tasks.
1. Match the sentences with the speakers.
- Sport is an important part of my life. (S)
-Sport teachers to win and to lose. (S)
- It makes you strong, fast and patient. (S)
- Sport makes men out of boys and women out of girls.(S)
- It is a good way to meet other people. (S)
- I’d rather watch sport competitions. (N)
- To be a good sportsman doesn’t suit everyone. (N)
- It is much better to watch the programs on TV. (N)
- Not everybody should go in for sport. (N)
2. Summarize the pupils’ points of view.
- Sasha thinks that…
- Nastya thinks that…
IX. Speaking:
What about you, children? Are you against or for sport?
Express your opinion and explain why you think so. Don’t forget to use the
conversational phrases such as:
As for me, I think that…
I should add that…
On the one hand… but on the other hand…
That’s why…
In conclusion I want to say that…
X. Home task.
1. I see that you’ve learned a lot of information on our
topic sport. You know the names of different kinds of sport, the equipment
people use, the places where people do this or that kind of sport. But there
is one more thing. I want you to say how we call people who go in different
kind of sport. Look at board and write down the names of the people who do
these kinds of sport.

Russian tennis player Maria Sharapova.
XI. The final of the lesson.
Thank you very much for your work. The lesson is over,
