Пояснительная записка

Изучение любого иностранного языка предполагает знакомство с нравами, традициями и образом жизни жителей соответствующей страны. Обычаи  и традиции объединяют людей, позволяют сохранить оригинальность и отличие от других народов. У жителей Великобритании особое отношение к традициям, они чтят их, невзирая ни на что, поэтому англичане известны всему миру как самая «традиционная» нация. Большинство обычаев и традиций связано с христи­анским календарем. Особенно почитается подготовка и празднование Рождества. Традиционно в декабре студенты принимают участие в конкурсах и викторинах, посвящённых рождественским традициям стран изучаемого языка.

Цель: Познакомить студентов с традициями празднования Рождества в Англии.

Задачи: повышение эффективности изучения английского  языка, формирование готовности воспринимать культуру другого народа, развитие в конкурсной деятельности нравственных и этических норм поведения.

Оборудование: мультимедийная презентация, газеты, посвящённые празднованию Рождества.

Участники:  студенты второго курса

Ведущий	The Christmas Story A long time ago, in a town called Nazareth, lived a young woman called Mary. One day she was visited by an angel named Gabriel. Gabriel told Mary that she was going to have a baby. The baby would be God’s son.Gabriel said that God wanted her to call the baby Jesus.
Ведущий	Mary was engaged to a carpenter called Joseph.Mary told Joseph what Gabriel had told her.Joseph and Mary got married and prepared for the arrival of the special baby.
Ведущий	When it was time for the baby to arrive Mary and Joseph travelled to Bethlehem.It was a long journey so Mary rode on a donkey.Joseph was from Bethlehem and they needed to go there to pay taxes.
Ведущий	Bethlehem was very busy and Joseph and Mary could not find a place to stay.Eventually an innkeeper found them a place to rest in his stable.It was in this stable that the Baby Jesus was born.
Ведущий	At the same time some shepherds were sitting on a hillside watching their sheep.An angel appeared in the sky. She told them not to be afraid.The angel told them that the Son of God had been born in Bethlehem.
Ведущий	The shepherds walked to Bethlehem to see this special baby.Far away in the East three wise men saw a very bright star.They knew it meant that a new King had been born and followed the star to find him.
Ведущий	The star led them all the way to Bethlehem.The wise men thought the baby would be in King Herod’s palace, so they went there first.Herod was curious about this new king and asked the wise men to let them know where he was.
Ведущий	The wise men presented Baby Jesus with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. That night, in their dreams, an angel warned them not to tell King Herod where Jesus was.When they awoke, they left for home and never returned to Herod’s Palace.
Ведущий	Soon afterwards Joseph had a dream. An angel told him to take Mary and the baby away to Egypt as Herod wanted to kill Baby Jesus.
Ведущий	In his search for the Baby Jesus, Herod ordered that all baby boys in Bethlehem be killed.But Joseph had made sure his new family was safe. He had already left Bethlehem and travelled to Egypt.

Ведущий	In general, people get prepared for this holiday very carefully Advent is the time of waiting for the arrival of Christmas.Some people buy or make Advent Calendars. These calendars have chocolates for the children hidden behind each window!
Ведущий	During Advent preparations for Christmas begin: people decorate their homes with twigs of mistletoe. Mistletoe is the symbol of love and reconciliation under which a boy may kiss a girl, asking pardon for the pranks. It is said that the girl who was not kissed under it at Christmas would not get married that year.
Ведущий	Our party is going on. In the centre of London at the Trafalgar square stands enormous green tree. In every house there stand evergreen trees, because the evergreen trees are the symbols of eternal life. Under the Christmas tree they put a manger with Christ baby.
Ведущий	Christmas trees are always decorated with fairy lights, angels and small toys. In addition, little packets with nuts, candies and special biscuits are hung on the tree. Presents are put around the tree. The Germans are believed to be the first to use the Christmas tree in their celebrations and Martin Luther was the first to place a star on the top of the tree. This star represents the star appeared over the stable in which Christ was born.
Ведущий	On the eve of Christmas children hang their stockings, so that Santa Claus could put presents into them: oranges, sweets, nuts and if the child didn't behave properly Santa Claus can put there a piece of coal as punishment.
Ведущий	On Christmas day both parents and children gather together to unwrap the presents. Later the whole family sits down for Christmas dinner. A traditional Christmas dinner includes roast turkey, roast potatoes, cranberry sauce.For dessert they have rich fruity pudding which you douse in brandy. Christmas puddings usually include raisins, nuts and cherries. Gingerbread is also typical.
Ведущий	Boxing Day is celebrated on December 26, the day after Christmas. On Boxing Day people in Britain play sports. Football and horse racing are the most popular activities. Shops sell their Christmas inventory at reduced prices! And families gather together again, go for a walk, watch football matches together, go shopping.
