The
dollar is also the main currency unit of: Australia, Canada, Jamaica, New
Zealand, Singapore, Zimbabwe and some other countries.
The
dollar was adopted in the USA in 1792. The first US dollars were issued in
silver and gold. After 1934, however, all gold coins were taken out of
circulation. A silver dollar was issued at various times from 1794 until 1935.
The
dollar was adopted in Canada in 1878. Australia adopted the dollar in 1966, and
New Zealand in 1967.
The
pound.
The
basic unit of money of the United Kingdom is the pound, also called the pound
sterling. Today the pound is equal to 100 pence. the British adopted the
decimal system in 1971.
Things
were far more complicated in the past. The pound was subdivided into 20
shillings. The shilling was subdivided into 12 pennies. The guinea was equal to
one pound one shilling. It was a gold coin used in fixing prices of valuable
goods. There also were crowns, 5 – shilling silver coins; halfcrowns worth 2
shillings and 6 pence; florins, 2 – shilling silver coins; bobs worth 12 pence.
a sixpence was a 6 – penny coin and a 3 – penny coin was called a “three

Money in our life
Money
has become one of the main things in our modern life. Some people live their
lives to earn money. They work hard, trying to earn as much money as they can.
Some of them become crazy about it and lose their dignity hunting money. They
don't appreciate such important things as family, friendship, love and other feelings.
Such people become greedy, they spend their lives in loneliness.
Money
influences our life a lot. A person can't be happy if he has no money to
satisfy his natural needs. Money or currency gives a person the ability to buy
and sell items. Without money, we would have to use a barter system, which is
generally harder to judge than exchanging a standardized currency.
But
money should have a limit. A person shouldn't have too much money. It begins
destroying him and becomes his curse.
It is
said in the Bible that "The love of money is the root of all evil."
Yes, big sums of money really bring different problems because people feel very
envious and jealous of other's fortune. The majority of all the crimes are made
because of money.
Приложение №5
Money: harm or good
Is money good or is it harm? Depending how you view it, cash can be good but it
has the potential to be a bad thing as well.
Firstly,
money can be good because it allows you the exact lifestyle you desire. It has
the ability to fund your dreams such as going on holidays or could allow the
chance for an early retirement. Secondly, it creates the chance to create a
family, live in the city you want and allows to you to do anything you can
imagine.
On the
other hand, the down side to money is if you live for it. By slaving away
working at a place you don't like to earn money makes it bad. Cash can misguide
many of Americans to become workaholics and desert their loved ones.
To sum
up, money has more good aspects than bad. Unfortunately the bad things related
to money are often tied with misuse or greed.
