Natural disasters
Natural disasters such as
flood, fire, tornado, earthquake, tsunamis are becoming more and more
frequent on our planet. In short description a natural disaster is a result
of a natural hazard, which has a negative effect on human beings. All the
known disasters have unique nature. Since
old times people have been afraid of them because
they haven’t understood these hazards. A flood is an overflow of water that
covers land. A hurricane is a tropical storm that often blows in some parts
of the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. An earthquake is the result of a sudden
movement among the tectonic plates of the Earth. Learning about these
specific threats and the measures, which should be taken, can save many
lives.
There are three groups. Each group finds one word
and discusses: What do we use these words for? Pupils use dictionary and
grammar summary
Formative assessment: Sandwich
5.Differenciatin by level. The natural disasters
are all over the world. Look at the map and show the places on the Earth
where you can see such ones.
All: show places on the map.
Most: show and name the country.
Some: Show, name the country and explain why.
Formative assessment: traffic lights
.
5. Group work. We live in a mountainous area. There
are a lot of earthquakes there. As a result we have landslides, fire. Make
the rules for people: what they should do during the disaster. Act out your
rules and explain them. (Pupils make rules).
Switch off the light.
Don’t use a lift.
Don’t go to the window because pieces of glass can
damage you.
Sit under the table because it’s more safely.
