The War of Independence (1775–1783)
The American Revolutionary War (1775–1783) or American War of Independence began as a war between the Kingdom of Great Britain and thirteen British colonies in North America, and concluded in a global war between several European great powers.
Causes of the War The Stamp Act (1765)- was a direct tax imposed by the British Parliament specifically on the colonies of British America The Quartering act(1765)- is used in the American colonies to ensure that British soldiers had adequate housing and provisions. The Sugar act(1764)-placed a tax on molasses The Tea act (1773)-taxes on tea led directly to a colonial actions known as the Boston Tea Party.
The War The American men were capable of handing a gun but knew little less about soldering The British troops were well trained, well supplied and well organized
At first Americans lost battle after battle. George Washington was appointed commander-in-chief. The exhausted army needed smth to revive its spirit and Washington did it! He organizes a surprise attack near the town of Trenton and won a victory there. In 1781 France entered the war openly on the American side
In 1781 Washington leading a combined French and American army surrounded British troops at York town. After the last battle there were some scrimmages all over the place. But actually the war was over. The peace treaty was signed in 1784 in Paris. The war lasted for long 8,5 years!
